Training physicians where they’re needed.
UMN Family Medicine and Community Health’s Grand Itasca Rural Family Medicine Residency welcomed its first 2 residents in June 2026, marking a milestone in expanding rural physician training in MN.
Why does it matter? About 76% of physicians trained in rural track programs ultimately live + work in rural communities. Rural training programs help prepare family physicians for the broad scope of care rural communities need.
