Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a new law that strengthens penalties for animal cruelty across the state. The law increases consequences for severe abuse cases and aims to hold offenders more accountable under Iowa law.

Supporters say the law reflects how serious violent acts against animals are and gives law enforcement stronger tools to prosecute these crimes. Animal welfare advocates have called for tougher protections for years and view this as an important step forward.

This is where Spartan came from.

This is the farm where criminal animal neglect and cruelty charges were filed. Spartan, the stallion now safe with Halo’s Haven Rescue, was removed from these conditions after years of fear, isolation, and neglect.

What breaks our hearts is that Spartan was not alone.

This is the herd he left behind in Dorchester County. These horses still need a voice. While Spartan is receiving medical care, proper nutrition, and learning what kindness feels like, the animals remaining on this property deserve the same chance at safety and a better life.

Every horse matters. Every animal matters. Spartan’s story is not over until his herd is safe too.

Please continue to follow, share, and speak up for the animals that cannot speak for themselves. AnimalWelfare

We have a nightly routine feeding Spartan in the run-in shed. We can get pretty close to him when we feed him apples at certain times. We would like to have everyone repost so that the herd left in Dorchester County on Naylor Farm gets our too!!!

Ava patiently works to earn Spartan’s trust, one step at a time. Today we spotted a tick on his chest that needs to be removed, but Spartan is an unhandled stallion rescued from a horrific neglect case, and getting close isn’t always easy. Healing isn’t just about treating wounds—it’s about building trust. At Halo’s Haven Rescue, we take the time these horses need, moving at their pace, showing them kindness, patience, and love. Every small step forward is a victory for Spartan. ❤️🐴

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has supported Halo’s Haven Rescue and Spartan’s journey to safety.

The outpouring of love, prayers, donations, messages, and encouragement has meant more than words can express. Every contribution is helping us provide Spartan with the care, medication, feed, and rehabilitation he desperately needs after everything he has endured.

A very special thank you to the Morgan family from New Jersey for their thoughtful gift of pain relief medication and their kindness during this critical time. Your generosity is making a real difference in Spartan’s recovery.

To everyone who has followed his story, shared his posts, donated, or simply kept him in your prayers—please know that your support is truly appreciated. Spartan’s future is brighter because of each and every one of you.

With much love and gratitude,

Michelle, Ava, and everyone at Halo’s Haven Rescue ❤️🐴

va and Brooklyn Strong headed out to begin another training session, side by side, building trust one step at a time. As this retired Thoroughbred made his way toward the round pen, Spartan watched closely from the pasture, ears forward and eyes full of curiosity.

It was almost as if Brooklyn was telling him, “Don’t worry, buddy… your day is coming. One day soon you’ll be out here too.”

For a stallion who came from neglect, fear, and uncertainty, every day at Halo’s Haven is a step toward a brighter future. Watching Spartan look on reminds us that healing takes time, patience, and love—but his journey is just beginning. ❤️🐴

Why is a rescue being attacked for helping animals? this is ft Sheriff Phillips daughter !!!!

Halo’s Haven Rescue stepped forward when many were unwilling to. We took in Spartan, an unhandled stallion that came from a highly publicized neglect case. Today he is receiving medical treatment, proper nutrition, safety, and compassion.

Instead of discussing the condition of the animals that remain behind, some people have chosen to attack the rescue and the volunteers who are working tirelessly to help them.

The real issue is not Halo’s Haven. The real issue is the welfare of the horses, dogs, goats, and other animals that have suffered for years and still need help.

The public deserves answers. The public deserves transparency. And most importantly, the animals deserve protection.

No rescue should be harassed, ridiculed, or targeted for speaking up on behalf of animals that cannot speak for themselves.

Spartan’s wounds are real. His fear was real. His neglect was real. Now he is finally safe, and we will continue fighting for the animals that remain behind.

This is not about politics. It is not about personalities. It is about animal welfare and accountability.

The citizens of Dorchester County should look at the facts, ask questions, and decide for themselves whether enough has been done to protect these animals.

We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We will continue to stand for the animals.

Spartan spent a lifetime not knowing kindness, safety, or trust. Rescued from a heartbreaking neglect case, this once-frightened stallion is slowly learning that not all humans will let him down.

In this quiet moment, he walks side-by-side with Ava toward the run-in shed for dinner—not because he has to, but because he’s beginning to trust. Every step is a victory. Every glance is a reminder that love, patience, and compassion can help heal even the deepest wounds.

Welcome to your new life, Spartan. ❤️🐴
