St. Francisville is widely considered one of the most beautiful historic towns in Louisiana. Perched on high ground above the Mississippi River, the community has preserved an extraordinary collection of historic homes, churches, gardens, and public buildings.

Founded in the late eighteenth century, the town played an important role in the history of the Florida Parishes and even briefly served as the capital of the short-lived Republic of West Florida. Throughout the nineteenth century, St. Francisville became a center of commerce and culture.

Visitors today can stroll quiet streets shaded by ancient oak trees while exploring architecture that spans multiple generations. Historic churches, museums, and homes provide insight into the people who shaped the community.

The town's preservation efforts have helped maintain its character while allowing visitors to experience one of Louisiana's most authentic historical settings.
