🇺🇸 Honoring Sgt. Richard K. Parker 🇺🇸

At House in the Woods, we proudly present the Sgt. Richard K. Parker Sturgeon Spearing Award each year in remembrance of a true American hero. One of the attending Veterans of the 2026 Veteran Sturgeon Spearing retreat will be selected to receive this very special recognition.

Sgt. Parker served with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 152nd Field Artillery Regiment of the Maine Army National Guard and deployed to Iraq with Security Force II. He was a young man who loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, four-wheeling—and like so many of the Veterans we welcome to the ice each year, he found joy and peace outside.

He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously. His sacrifice, and the sacrifice of so many others, is the reason we gather, the reason we honor, and the reason we continue this mission.

Each year, we remember Sgt. Parker by recognizing a Veteran who embodies dedication, generosity, and commitment to their fellow brothers and sisters.

Today, we pause to remember him—and all who have given their lives in service to our country.

We invite you to drop the names of your Fallen Heroes in the comments below so we may honor and remember each of them for their service and ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Their names matter. Their stories matter. They are never forgotten.

TOGETHER WE HEAL. 💙
