CITY COUNCIL MEETING – JUNE 1, 2026.

St. Charles City Council has unanimously adopted the resolution affirming its intent to maintain the existing Fox River impoundment within St. Charles.

The resolution expresses the City’s commitment to preserving river depth, usability, and recreational opportunities for the community while continuing to work with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources on long-term solutions to maintain water levels. The existing dam remains part of the current proposal, and the resolution preserves flexibility to consider future alternative structures and features that would maintain water levels and retention.

Thank you to all Fox River Preservation Society volunteers and supporters.

As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers, but in Illinois, April also brings an increased risk of severe thunderstorms. Spring is peak severe weather season, making it crucial to be prepared before a storm strikes.

🌧️Lightning Safety Tips from the St. Charles Fire Department:
⚡If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck; get inside immediately
⚡Best options include a fully enclosed building or a hard-topped vehicle
⚡If you’re caught outside with no shelter, avoid open structures (pavilions, dugouts or tents), tall objects (trees, poles) and open fields
⚡Get low (but don’t lie flat) — crouch with minimal ground contact
⚡Stay away from water (pools, lakes, rivers and even wet ground can carry electrical current)
⚡Avoid corded electronics and plumbing; lightning can travel through wiring and pipes
⚡Stay off porches and away from windows
⚡Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder; many injuries happen because people go back outside too soon
