In Vermont, it can cost well over $100,000 per year to incarcerate one person.
That places us among the highest in the nation. Yet, many people leave incarceration without the support needed to stay stable.

So the question isn’t just what we’re spending.
It’s what we’re investing in.
Because if the outcome is continued instability, disconnection, and return to the system, we have to ask:

👉 Are we funding solutions ... or cycles?

1 in 8 American adults meets the criteria for alcohol use disorder.

That's your neighbor. Your coworker. Your sibling. Maybe you.

And yet, fewer than 1 in 10 people who need treatment for alcohol use disorder receive it.

The gap isn't about access alone. It's about shame.

When we make it safer to talk about alcohol honestly, more people get the help they need. That's what Alcohol Awareness Month is really about.

Addiction is rarely a single moment. It develops through complex interactions between trauma, stress, brain chemistry, environment, and access to support.

Over time, patterns form.
Recovery interrupts those patterns.

When someone learns to navigate stress without substances, that is prevention.
When someone heals trauma and reconnects with purpose, that is prevention.
When recovery becomes visible in communities, hope spreads.
