Bill Writing Presentation

This presentation will be brought to you by the WV Legislative Services Division, which was created by the Joint Committee on Government and Finance in 1965, providing legal services, research, bill drafting, bill summaries, statutory revision, document imaging of records for storage and staff for standing and joint interim committees of the Senate and House of Delegates.

This presentation will explain how to turn your ideas into legislation before the WV Legislature, including:

Legislative Services Division: Understanding our role in the bill drafting process.
Finding a Sponsor: How to identify and secure a legislator to sponsor your bill.
Bill Drafting Fundamentals: Learn the key components of a bill or resolution and to effectively communicate your ideas and desired language to legislative drafter.

This will be a hybrid meeting where you have the option to come in person or attend by Teams.

WV STATE PLAN FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
LISTENING SESSIONS

Charleston, WV – The West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) along with the West Virginia Independence Network (WIN) will hold multiple listening sessions throughout WV to receive public input for developing the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL).

The SPIL is a three-year plan for strengthening independent living in West Virginia. Developed by the WV Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) with Centers for Independent Living, also known as the WV Independence Network (WIN), public input, and approved by WV Division of Rehabilitation (WVDRS), the SPIL governs how Federal and State Independent Living Funds will be spent, what services will be provided, how the statewide network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) will be developed, how the SPIL will be monitored, and how the WVSILC will collaborate with other councils and agencies to improve Independent Living services.

If you are a resident of West Virginia and have a disability or are a family member or a caregiver of a person with a disability, we want to hear from you. Join us and let us know how you believe Independent Living Funds should be used, what services should be provided, and where services should be provided.

I received an email from the Governor's office, yesterday and he signed the proclamation yesterday I sent in to him in April to proclaim September Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month in West Virginia! Another accomplishment made in the mountain state! To say that I am excited about this is an understatement! I am over the moon about this! I should receive the hard copy soon!
