Sometimes the biggest dreams begin with an old barn, a lot of hard work, and a handful of people willing to believe in something that doesn’t quite exist yet.
Over the last several days, we’ve been rolling up our sleeves, clearing out years of dust and debris, and beginning the process of transforming this little building into what we hope will someday become the home of Kaleidoscope Learning Collective.
If I’m being honest, there is still a tremendous amount of work ahead of us. Some days it’s hard to see past the mess. Other days I stand in the middle of the building and can already imagine children gathered around a project, seedlings growing in the garden, families connecting with one another, and community members sharing their knowledge and talents with the next generation.
That’s the part that keeps me going.
Kaleidoscope Learning Collective was born from a dream of creating a place where learning feels meaningful. A place where people can get their hands dirty, ask questions, build things, grow things, care for animals, develop life skills, explore their community, and discover what they’re capable of.
As an Autism Specialist and Special Education teacher, supporting neurodivergent learners has always been at the heart of what I do. My hope is to create opportunities where children and young adults with autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences feel understood, supported, and valued while learning alongside others in a community that celebrates strengths and differences alike.
While our primary focus will be supporting youth, my hope is that Kaleidoscope becomes something even bigger, a place where families, community members, and learners of all ages can come together to learn, share, connect, and grow through nature, creativity, life skills, hands-on experiences, and meaningful community involvement.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of others. I am so grateful to our community partners at Desert Dreamers, Erin, Alex, Maddox, Paxton, Jackie, and of course Blair, their feisty Australian Shepherd puppy and self-appointed supervisor of all projects. Their encouragement, friendship, and countless hours of hard work have helped turn this dream into something that finally feels possible.
Together, we’re creating something neither of us could build alone.
We’re not just renovating an old barn.
We’re creating a place where people can learn, connect, grow, and belong.
They say it takes a village, and I have a feeling they’re right.
If this vision speaks to you and you’d like to help in some way, whether through volunteering, sharing a skill, donating materials, partnering with us, sponsoring a project, or simply cheering us on, we would love to connect with you.
Kaleidoscope is being built by community, for community, and every helping hand makes a difference.
There is still a tremendous amount of work ahead of us, but every day this little building looks a little different, and every day the dream feels a little more real.
Thank you for following along. I can’t wait to continue sharing the journey with all of you.
