EDWARD KELLEY PRESCHOOL WILL STAY OPEN!

Rosemont had globes and worms and bees, OH MY!! at the Earth Day celebration on Saturday sponsored by SMUD and Supervisor Pat Hume, with community partner Cordova Rec & Park District. Along with all the fun was education about electricity, water, composting, gardening, and pollination. Exhibitors included SMUD, California American Water, Sacramento Beekeepers Assn., UC Davis Master Gardeners, and Sacramento County Waste Management.

Thank you to all of the hard-working volunteers from Rosemont High School's LEAD Program, Atonement Lutheran Church (major donor of reuse raffle prizes), Garden City Church's Ice Cream Ambulance, and the many friends of RCA. We appreciate you all!

This year, the event will be focusing on how our community can enhance safety and foster growth in light of new developments. We will explore multiple options to ensure that as our area evolves, it remains a secure and welcoming place for everyone.

Join us in the conversation about the future of our community. Your input is vital as we work together to build a stronger, safer Rosemont for tomorrow. Everyone is encouraged to attend and contribute to this important dialogue. Elected officials, County departments, law enforcement, recreation and parks, school board, and utilities have been invited to attend.

HAPPY EARTH DAY, ROSEMONT!
The celebration happens this Saturday at Rosemont Community Park from 10am-2pm. Information booths, a demonstration beehive, worm composting bin, coloring books, sidewalk chalk, seed planting, Rosemont Reads, and the "Globe Zone". Snacks, free raffle tickets, and prizes provided for those who sign up for a "Passport". Bring a little reusable shopping bag for goodies you might pick up. RCA SUPPORTS EDWARD KELLEY PRESCHOOL
On April 2, 2026, the RCA Board voted unanimously to send a letter to the Sacramento City Unified School District in support of the non-closure of the Edward Kelley Parent Participation Preschool. In addition to the historic, cultural, and educational value of this school, the Board conveyed its concern about the future of the school building, a landmark in the Rosemont Community and a unique one-room school building representing Sacramento’s educational history.

In 1981, the school was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Because of the placement on the National Registry, there are limited options for reuse or remodeling making the building difficult to resell or repurpose. The Board has not provided the community with the future plans for the site, and with the limits placed by its status on the National Registry, the community is rightfully concerned that the property will fall into disrepair, be used by the unhoused, vandalized, or overrun by vermin and other pests.
