We're starting a fun social media series called, "Friday Facts"! We'll share on topics around career development, health and wellness, sustainability, financial literacy, STEAM, and entrepreneurship.

Did you know that the average teenager spends $2,150 per year?

That’s 42 million teens in America spending their money on a variety of products. You all are smart and are opening up your financial horizons, which makes it even more critical to get started learning lessons about money, saving, spending, investing, etc.

One of our favorite things to do as an organization is to connect teens with professionals in various career fields.

This picture was from our very first virtual career day. Teens joined in throughout the webinar to hear incredible insights from industry leaders in the cyber security and "white-hat" hacking world.

It's fascinating to hear how every one of these individuals began in a much different field, but all of them have found a new passion in cyber security. Plus, they're self-taught, which proves that you can make a decision to change your path at any given point. You just have to be determined enough to make it happen!

A little for you this afternoon!

We love collaborating with experts and bringing their knowledge and skillset to our youth.

This mental health and wellness "adulting" workshop was led by Zulema and we have continued to get inquiries into hosting similar workshops.

It goes to show how much our youth desires to learn strategies to navigate the real world with courage and confidence.

We've seen them in movies and TV shows. Shadowy figures who lurk in basements. We've seen them in stock photos. Faceless with green binary wrapped around them. Have you met a hacker? As most of you know, financial literacy is one of the pillars that we focus on with our teens! It's one of those foundational topics and skill sets that can take you far in life.

We've talked about health and wellness tips, but this one is simple.

Adopt a gratitude practice. Wake up in the morning and before getting out of bed state one thing you are grateful for.

Or write someone a note of appreciation.

Either way, keep it simple, but watch as it shifts your energy, keeps you more present, provides you with perspective, and elevates your mood.

Health & wellness is a process of equipping yourself with skills and strategies to make the best decisions for your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. 💙

Part of that is how you are fueling your body. 🍲🌯

Knowing how to read labels can help you gain awareness about the quality of food you buy and can empower you to make more informed decisions. 👍

Here's a few tips on how to read nutrition labels:

◽ Serving size! This section on a label tells you the size of ONE serving and how many servings are in the entire package.

◽ Calories per serving - pay attention to this number because sometimes the serving size is much less than you think. If you eat two servings, then double what the label says for calories per serving.

◽ Saturated & trans fat - pay close attention to these numbers (keep them low) and make sure to eat enough protein and fiber each day.

◽ Added sugar - this shows how much artifical sweeteners or carbohydrates were added in place of normal table sugar. Try to keep this number close to zero.

Remember, labels can be tricky sometimes but having a basic knowledge on what to look for on a nutritional label can help set you up for success.

Have you heard of grounding?! 🤔

Grounding is the practice of putting our feet or body on a conductive surface such as grass, dirt, sand, or any surface that connects you to earth. 🌎

Think wayyyy back in the day, humans used to walk around barefoot or wear animal hides as shoes. As we've evolved, we have moved further away from staying physically connected to the earth.

Since Earth is covered in an infinite amount of electrons that interact with our body's electrical state, grounding can create a therapeutic healing process. 👍

Here's some other health benefits of grounding:

▪Improve mood and help with depression
▪ Reduce stress
▪ Improve circulation
▪ Promote homeostasis balance in the nervous system
▪ Increase exposure to vitamin D
