Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond a parent’s cancer. Its mission is to support these children with innovative, fun-filled programs that foster a lasting community. Kesem programs have a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence, and

strengthens their communication skills. The flagship program of Kesem, Camp Kesem, operates 131 free summer camps across the country for children ages 6 to 18 who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer. Camp Kesem at Sacramento State was founded in 2018 and supports children in the Sacramento community by providing a free week-long summer camp experience and year-round peer support. Camp Kesem at Sacramento State is operated by 11 student volunteers and serves 22 campers ages 6-18 per year. In 2019, Kesem served more than 10,200 children coast-to-coast—all funded by generous donations from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
