Down Syndrome Information Alliance DSIA provides support and resources to empower individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and our community.

We envision a community where people with Ds are empowered, respected as individuals, and accepted as valued participants in their community. DSIA was founded in 2004 by three families seeking greater access to support, information, and services in our community. Since then, we’ve grown as a dedicated non-profit organization serving Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Yuba, and Sutter counties. We envision a community where people with Down syndrome are empowered, respected as individuals, and accepted as valued participants in neighborhood schools, community activities, and the business world.

Down Syndrome Awarenss Day 13: Friendship Matters. Connection Matters. EVERYONE Deserves to Belong!

Friendship is so much more than having someone to spend time with. It’s about belonging, being accepted, sharing experiences, building confidence, and knowing someone is happy to see you.

For individuals with Down syndrome, meaningful friendships are just as important as they are for anyone else. Friendships help build independence, strengthen social skills, boost self-esteem, and create a sense of connection and belonging.

Yet, for many individuals with Down syndrome, opportunities to develop and maintain friendships don't always come easily. As children grow into teenagers and adults, social circles can become smaller, and opportunities for meaningful connections can become harder to find. That's why creating opportunities for friendship is SO important!
