Healthy Food, Thriving Communities Healthy Food, Thriving Communities is an extension of the Center for Wellness and Nutrition, a program of the Public Health Institute.

Our goal is to promote healthy food access in underserved communities. The Center for Wellness and Nutrition is a national leader in developing partnerships, programs, and campaign that strives to promote health equity and reduce obesity in underserved communities. We work with local retailers, schools, state organizations, and national organizations to ensure health is accessible to all communiti

es. Healthy Food, Thriving Communities staff offer curriculum, trainings, technical assistance, and materials to qualifying retail stores, farmers markets, worksite, and various other partners at no cost. Adult and youth nutrition education is also available to the community and our partners.

Our Story

The Sacramento County Obesity Prevention Program is engaging communities to improve the health of small businesses and local residents. By participating in the Champion Retailer Program, retailers can simultaneously increase sales of healthy items, leverage free resources to enhance and promote their business, and improve the well-being of community residents.
