More than 1,500 CPF members have answered the call over the past month, traveling across the West to battle wildfires and help protect communities in need.

When communities face devastating loss, California firefighters show up. They bring skill, strength and compassion — standing shoulder to shoulder with fellow firefighters through some of their darkest hours.

Across state lines, the fire service is one family. When the call comes, we answer.

"I didn't know what to say or how to react... I started to tear up a little bit," said Elysium Mahnke after firefighters working the Spokane Complex Fires returned to her Olive Garden station with nearly $1,000 in tips for the 21-year-old server who lost her family's home to the fires.

As firefighters, we spend our careers showing up for others through hazardous conditions, physical strain, and repeated exposure to trauma. We're asking our lawmakers to show up for us. would lower the retirement age from 57 to 55, recognizing the toll this job takes on our bodies and minds.
