We’re inspired by partners across the Valley co-hosting the first Valley-based Getting Down to Facts III Briefing. It’s powerful to see the collaboration between the Central Valley Multilingual Consortium, the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), Californians Together, UC Merced’s EL-WIN Program, Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE), and Stanford University's SCALE Initiative.

Centered on the latest research on California’s education system, the event made space for educators, school board members, families, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to explore findings and share insights. One big takeaway: The Central Valley is poised and ready to shape the future of education, especially for the Valley’s multilingual learners.

Meet Lucy Yale — drag performer, Fresno native, and a voice for LGBTQ+ community in the Central Valley.

Lucy speaks with clarity and care about what visibility actually costs. About the way misunderstanding becomes policy. About the history that LGBTQ+ people carry with them every time they walk into a space and wonder if it's still safe.

She also speaks about joy. About a community that has always found ways to resist, to celebrate, and to take care of one another.

📚 National Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month: Did You Know?

Students in Modesto City Schools are making steady gains in literacy.

Over the past three years, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding state standards in English Language Arts has increased by 5.5 percentage points.

Today, more than 1 in 3 students (37.2%) are meeting or exceeding ELA standards — the district’s highest performance since statewide testing began.

Progress like this shows what’s possible when communities invest in strong literacy instruction and support multilingual learners.
