Empowering the Autism Community: A Global Initiative by Senses Cultural and the Center for ABT (Autism Specific Behavior Therapy)

Senses Cultural is thrilled to announce an initiative to empower individuals with autism, their families, therapists and teachers with exceptional resources, learning opportunities, and expert consultation. In partnership with the Center for Autism-Specific Behavior Therapy (ABT), we are launching an initiative to create a brighter future for the autism community.

The Center for Autism-Specific Behavior Therapy offers comprehensive resources, guidance, training, and supervision to professionals, parents, students, and those impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through its robust online presence, ABT ensures that people around the world can access evidence-based information and support.

This initiative is led by Dr. Vera Bernard-Opitz, a German psychological psychotherapist and behavior analyst (BCBAD/IBA) renowned for her pioneering work in autism therapy. Through ABT, she has made her decades of expertise accessible to a global audience, providing invaluable tools such as free training videos, innovative therapy materials, and links to critical resources.

At Senses Cultural, we believe in community-driven solutions. After a year of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were able to celebrate our first Cooking for Autism luncheon on June 14th 2024.

As a small group of friends and neighbors we met two distinguished professors from the UCD MIND Institute, Drs. Randi and Paul Hagerman, and heard their insights about the collaborative research program initiated by Senses Cultural. The gathering was focused on learning about Senses Culturals’ research collaboration with the Hagermans and Dr. Prigione from Dusseldorf University in Germany. We learned about new avenues for the treatment of Fragile X syndrome, autism, and related neurodevelopmental disorders (Learn more about our research here).

This was a motivational gathering focused on kindness and community featuring delicious Persian cuisine and cultural elements that enriched the gathering. The rice and beans with a touch of Zfran and Persian herbs, appetizer dishes of yogurt, lots of fresh vegetables, and Shirazi Salad punctuated many vibrant discussions. It was a truly inspiring occasion and we hope to repeat it often.

We are thrilled to announce our plans to host a series of such friendly gatherings featuring great Persian food. We hope that bringing our friends and neighbors together to celebrate moments like these will promise a healthier and more peaceful world for us all. As the famous Persian saying goes, "By breaking bread we are building bridges." We think that this is just as true now as it has ever been.

We would like to thank Leila for her inspiring and beautiful dance performances. Leila is a family nurse practitioner and mother of two neurodivergent children. She is a true inspiration to us.

With love,
Tata
