On Wednesday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Council will be unveiling our very own Peace Officer Monument dedicated to Placer County Sheriff’s Deputies killed in the line of duty. We hope the monument will give the families of the fallen and the community something back for the sacrifice these officers made in order to keep their community safe from the evil of the world.

California has been conducting Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremonies at the State Capitol since 1977. It is a ceremony that honors the officers who have fallen in the line-of-duty the preceding year, recognizing the sacrifice of those loved and left behind.

Placer County has a long history of law enforcement and the support we receive from our citizens living and operating within our county has helped bring a peace officer memorial to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Placer County sculptor, Douglas Van Howd owns and operates Sierra Sculpture Inc. within our county, and Van Howd specializes in the production of monumental bronze statues. Since 1988, he has been commissioned to place 118 monumental sculptures to date in museums, resorts, corporate grounds, city sites and private estates. Many from around the world have been photographed with his bronze monuments, which are centers of attraction for all ages.

Come join us outside at the Sheriff’s Office rotunda from 0930-1130 so that we may gift this Placer County Sheriff’s Council latest project to the community and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

3/28/23 was a great day for Placer County Sheriff's Corrections and the organization. We had the groundbreaking ceremony at South Placer Jail for the SB863 project that will add a 45-bed mental health unit, and the SB844 project that will add a 120-bed medium security vocational training unit. We are very close to finalizing the contract for a Corrections needs assessment and staffing study. We hope to have Vanir start that process soon.

Thank you Placer County Board of Supervisors!

For continuing to make Placer County a beautiful community where art, culture, and history shape our lives and give thanks to the service and sacrifice of those who have lain down their lives to protect their friends family and neighbors.

Another step closer in the Peace Officer Memorial Project.

It's our shared duty to honor the sacrifices of our peace officers who've given their lives to help keep us safe. Our Board of Supervisors yesterday voted unanimously to contribute $50,000 on behalf of our residents to help fund the Placer County Sheriff's Council's proposed Fallen Deputy Monument. The monument, created by world-famous Auburn artist Douglas Van Howd, will be placed at the Auburn Justice Center, honoring the nine Placer County Sheriff's Office peace officers who've given their lives in service. There's still a need for more funding to help complete this monument. Learn more here about how you can help: https://www.placercountysheriffscouncil.org/

It was decided today that we will POSTONE DWAD until the Spring (new date TBD), due to the ongoing Fire.

We recognize the resources and hours being assigned and that it will continue into next week.

Things are still uncertain for our Foresthill and Todd Valley community.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Can't wait to see you and the family in the Spring.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office, which first opened April 25, 1851, marked on Monday its 171st year of law enforcement. Since then, hundreds of men and women have worn the uniform and nine in the department's history have paid the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty.
