We are a group of non-Black folks who heard the call for non-Black people, especially white people, to fix the systems that disproportionately harm Black people through both legal and illegal state violence. We follow the leadership of Black Lives Matter Sacramento and support the work of dismantling systems of white supremacy and achieving the end of state violence against all Black people in ord
er to support Black Liberation and Joy. Through participating in direct actions and pushing policy and legislation changes, we support BLMSac’s mission of holding government and law enforcement accountable for their impacts on, and responsibilities to, Black communities. We are a racially diverse group of people who understand that we have benefited from anti-Blackness and are working to use our various powers and privileges to correct our unequal and inequitable society. We unapologetically and unequivocally support:
- Defunding and the ABOLITION of policing as we know it today.
- The intersectional support and liberation of ALL BLACK LIVES, including LGBTQ+ Black lives.
- Sanctity of bodily autonomy for all Black people, including freedom from terror and assault by law enforcement, freedom of reproductive choice, and freedom of gender expression. This page is a workspace for only 3 things:
1. Centering Black perspectives and voices, and consciously decentering ourselves.
2. Providing a platform for non-Black folks to participate in this work without creating more emotional labor for Black activists.
3. Providing resources for non-Black folks to further our ongoing self-education on the historical and current impacts of systemic white supremacy and Black oppression, as well as constructive instruction for how to resolve and repair them. Intro-level ally education. We expect participants here to have dealt with enough of their own emotional fragility that they can have mature, non-reactionary discussions of hard topics.
2. ANY defense of whiteness, white supremacy, or their symbols. This includes but is not limited to false equivalencies between Black and white oppression, the "few bad apples" concept of bad policing, anything that starts with "not all _____" or "just to play Devil's advocate", and concern trolling of any kind.
3. Non-Black allies centering their own experiences, including:
- the emotional processing of white feelings that often goes hand-in-hand with self-education (there are millions of other groups and pages for that)
- any attempts to show your wokeness by commodifying your Black friends or family as "proof"
- derailing the current topic of a thread to introduce a different idea you find more urgent or important (just start a new thread).
4. Figuring out how to deal with your racist friends and family. While we encourage you to share the info and resources we provide, BLMSac is not about changing individual hearts and minds. That is also important, but it's not our lane. We focus on state violence, not issues of racism between individuals.
5. Allies to compete for cookies or credibility. Don't come here to prove how woke you are or to silence someone you think isn't. If you find another commenter really problematic, stop engaging with them and contact the admins to handle it.
6. Organizing in detail. This page and the Black Lives Matters Sacramento's page are heavily monitored by law enforcement, so feel free to discuss ideas but take organizing to more secure channels. We will only announce actions and events, we do not plan them in plain view of the cops. Admins reserve the right to ban anyone who does not participate in the spirit of everything above.
***That said, we are very happy to have you join us in this work for establishing, protecting, and serving the civil rights, human rights, and lived experiences of Black people in America.***
