This Thursday at 3:30 p.m. PT, we’re hosting a free webinar to share what we’ve learned from our first SkillSight pilot—and how California school districts can participate in our next cohort for FREE.

High school seniors can reach graduation with grades, test scores, and a diploma—but without understanding the skills they’ve developed or where those strengths are in demand in the labor market. As more employers adopt skills-based hiring practices, students exiting high school need to understand their strongest skills, which jobs match those skills, and the different paths that can lead to those careers.

That need inspired the creation of SkillSight. This no-cost tool translates students’ academic performance into personalized skills profiles and connects graduating seniors to job matches, wages, and education and training pathways. Most importantly, SkillSight doesn't require educators or administrators to do anything new or different. Students get skills profiles in minutes with very little burden on administrators and staff.

Most students graduate high school without knowing which jobs or careers are a good match for their skills.

In ERP's first listening sessions with high school students a year ago, only 10% of students said they knew what jobs were a match for their skills. Students were developing valuable skills in school but often didn't know how those skills connected to opportunities after graduation.

After receiving a SkillSight profile, the story changed. Eighty-two percent of students reported a better understanding of career opportunities aligned with their skills.

Students deserve better information about their future.

Every student has strengths and job skills. The question is whether students know and can see them.

One of the goals of ERP's Skills Currency initiative is to help students better understand the skills they have developed through K-12 learning and how those skills connect to future opportunities in the workforce.

In ERP's first SkillSight pilot with graduating seniors in Rowland Unified School District, 83% of students reported having a better understanding of their skills and strengths after reviewing their skills profile.

This finding highlights an important opportunity. When students have visibility into their skills, they are better positioned to explore careers, evaluate their postsecondary options, and make informed decisions about their futures.

Helping students understand their skills is not the end goal—it's the starting point.

That's why the first question we asked in our pilot with students was simple: Did students leave with a better understanding of their skills and strengths? The answer was encouraging.

This is the first finding highlighted in our new report, Skills Currency: Building a Common Language Between Education and Employment.

For generations, students have graduated with transcripts, test scores, and diplomas. But few graduate with a clear understanding of the skills they have developed and what those skills can mean for their future.

Today, Educational Results Partnership is releasing a new report that shares findings from ERP's first skills currency pilot and exploring a broader vision for helping students understand the value of their skills in today's labor market, connect those skills to opportunities, and make more informed decisions about education, training, and employment pathways.
