đź’™ Gratitude in Action đź’™
Today we had the privilege of presenting a $2,500 donation to our friends at Blue Line Outdoors— an incredible organization that honors and uplifts the law enforcement community through the healing power of the outdoors.

Their mission speaks directly to the heart of what the Never Forgotten Games are all about: honoring those who serve, building community, and creating meaningful connections beyond the uniform.

To everyone who competed, volunteered, and supported the Games — this is what your effort helped make possible. Thank you for standing with us in remembering the fallen and supporting the living.

A note about appreciation on L.E Appreciation Day:

About 90% of the officers we've hosted through BLO are from outside shasta/tehama counties, however, that's where about 75% of the events have taken place so far.

Local businesses, individuals, POA's, guides, local Deputies/Officers/spouses have been incredibly supportive and generous. Not 1 single person has EVER questioned whether the participants are local or why they are on trips with us. These folks support and genuinely care about our LE no matter where they hail from and are excited to share the outdoor resources Northern CA has to offer. I could probably argue that many, many other communities are similar.

Many donors and volunteers have traveled from great distances, and at the expense of their own time and money, over and over again, with never a question whether the participants are from a particular agency, area, special unit, or have been involved in a particular incident. I believe this speaks to a deep appreciation that does not always have a conduit to flow through.

There is a great appreciation for what the men and women of Law Enforcement do every day, not just on "that day". It's not always obvious when you are out there pulling a beat and dealing with so many people who are having a terrible day, however, over the course of the last several years, we have witnessed appreciation come in many different forms from very diverse demographics with many community members stating they want to help; want to show appreciation, but just don't know how or what is appropriate.

Believe me, when we first started doing this, you'd be hard pressed to find someone more cynical than me about support and appreciation. These days my perspective has changed a bit. Yes, the haters are the loudest, and being constantly blasted with that negativity is toxic! To all the coppers out there trust me when I tell you there are good people that truly support LE but just aren't loud about it.... -Jason

Abandoned for Asking for Help: The Silent Crisis of Police Officers Terminated for Mental Health Issues - By Stop The Threat - Stop The Stigma Founder Captain Adam Meyers, CPS

(Captain Meyers writes from his heart and from his professional experience.)

In recent years, the conversation around mental health in law enforcement has grown louder, but for many officers, speaking up still comes with devastating consequences. Behind the badge, countless men and women who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others find themselves abandoned, stigmatized, and even terminated when they reveal their own struggles with mental health.

The Hidden Wound in Law Enforcement:

Police work is among the most mentally demanding professions in the world. Officers are exposed to trauma, violence, death, and human suffering on a near-daily basis. Over time, these experiences can lead to anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health challenges. Yet, despite widespread acknowledgment that these issues exist, the culture within many departments still discourages vulnerability.

Instead of being treated with compassion and support, officers who admit they need help often face suspicion and judgment. The same system that praises them for bravery in the field too often punishes them for bravery in admitting their pain.

The Reality of Retaliation and Termination:

When officers come forward about their mental health, they frequently encounter retaliation, sometimes subtle, sometimes overt. They might be pulled from duty, stripped of their badge and firearm, and placed on administrative leave. While some departments justify these steps as “precautionary,” the result often feels more like punishment than protection.

In too many cases, officers are ultimately terminated - not because they did something wrong, but because they asked for help. Instead of being supported through treatment, they are quietly dismissed or encouraged to resign, often under the guise of being “unfit for duty.” This not only destroys careers, but also reinforces the dangerous message that seeking help equals weakness.

Abandonment After Service:

The impact of such abandonment goes far beyond the loss of employment. For many officers, their identity, sense of purpose, and financial stability are tied to their career in law enforcement. Being terminated for mental health reasons can trigger deeper emotional pain, leading to isolation, shame, and hopelessness. Tragically, some officers who are cast aside end up becoming part of the rising statistic of law enforcement suicides.

What’s even more disheartening is how departments often distance themselves from these officers afterward. The same organizations that once called them “family” may stop checking in, offering no support or follow-up. The brotherhood and sisterhood that are supposed to define the profession can suddenly disappear the moment an officer’s mental health becomes visible.

The Stigma Still Lives:

Despite campaigns and slogans promoting “officer wellness,” the stigma around mental health remains deeply ingrained. Many officers still fear that disclosing their struggles will lead to career-ending consequences and too often, they’re right. This fear perpetuates silence, leaving officers to suffer alone until the damage becomes irreparable.

If departments truly want to change this culture, it will take more than words. It will require policies that protect officers who seek help, confidential and supportive mental health services, and leadership that leads by example - not through punishment, but through compassion.

A Call for Change:

No officer should have to choose between their career and their mental health. Departments must recognize that supporting their officers in times of psychological distress is not a liability, it’s a responsibility. Officers who have the courage to confront their mental health challenges deserve the same loyalty and protection they’ve given their communities.

It’s time for law enforcement agencies to stand by their own and to stop abandoning those who serve and start leading with empathy, understanding, and humanity. Because behind every badge is a human being who deserves help, not rejection.

Thank you to everyone at Never Forgotten Games for the continued support. Thank you to everyone who participates in their event honoring the fallen. Without financial support like this, it would be pretty tough to do what we do.

Today, we proudly presented a donation to Blue Line Outdoors, an incredible organization that gives back to those who serve and protect—law enforcement, firefighters, and military personnel—through the healing power of the outdoors. 🌲🇺🇸

From hunting and fishing to forging lifelong bonds in nature, Blue Line Outdoors is more than just a community—it’s a mission to support our nation’s heroes beyond the badge and uniform.

Our trip yesterday was on the Sacramento River fishing for striped bass out of a 26' jet boat. These fish are currently making a migration upriver to spawn, so there were a lot of 'targets' in the water. We had amazing weather and hooked lots of fish. The boat hauled in limits for everyone to take fillets home and make striper tacos. Kevin brought an awesome boat lunch, and our guests got to participate in a fishery they had never experienced before. Thank you to everyone who has donated recently to make decompression days like this possible.

Last weekend we took a group of Deputies up to about 3000' elevation for a quick trout fishing getaway after a CI.

We got into some great action using fly fishing gear to catch rainbow and brown trout. The biggest fish was an absolute giant for this particular body of water that weighed in between 5 or 6 pounds!

We provided 2 drift boats, all of the equipment, and lunch.

Although we prefer to get our hosted Officers away and out of town for at least one night, these day trips are a great option when schedules are tight or someone needs to get away last minute.

Thank you D.R for the extra time and effort.

Last week, we hosted a 2 night retreat for 10 officers who were involved in a line of duty death incident.

For lodging, we rented a massive 'barndominium' on the water at a vineyard near Rio Vista.

On the arrival day, Kevin cooked dinner for the group, and everyone enjoyed the game room and just having time with one another.

The next day, we had 2 charter boats lined up through to go target sturgeon. The group landed a few and lost a few. These fish were big enough that it took teamwork to reel in a couple of the bigger ones!

That night, Kevin put together an outstanding steak dinner. For some reason, our lodging facility didn't have a bbq available. However, saved the day by loaning us one for the evening! Crisis averted...

The following day, we went back on the water with the same charter boats as the day before. The fishing conditions were really tough, but a couple of fish were brought in, including a striper that they were able to take home for the table.

Big thanks to Kevin for handling the food for everyone; breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Thank you to everyone who made a monetary donation this year. Without some backing financially, we could NEVER provide experiences like this.
