Pressing On: Meet Calvin

Twenty-two years ago, Calvin Robertson of Vacaville was diagnosed with cone-rod dystrophy at the age of 41. It would take two decades and the loss of two wives and his mother for him to seek out help from Society. "I want people to know that no matter what life brings you, there’s ways to press on."

Support Society's Seniors During State Budget Cuts

As Shari discusses in her latest blog post, reduced funding from the state budget will directly impact services for our Senior IMPACT Project.

We are calling upon our powerful network of community members and dedicated donors to join us in addressing this gap.

Thank you for considering making a gift designated to our Vision Forward Initiative to help us continue to provide our services to every senior who needs them.

Make your gift online today: https://societyfortheblind.org/donate/.

Join our round table discussion for blind parents and blind grandparents, where we share strategies to raise confident kids, become positive role models, and create safe, fun environments for learning and play. Connect with others to learn practical skills for playing games, monitoring children effectively, helping with homework, and teaching independence, all while supporting one another with understanding and encouragement. Come and hear from the lived experiences of our panel of blind grandparents and blind parents. We will enjoy “kid friendly” snacks and a demonstration of hands-on activities that you can incorporate into your life with your kids.

Society Receives Grant from Ability Central

We are proud to share that Society for the Blind has received grant funding from Ability Central to help us purchase Aleye Haptic devices and train staff and clients on their use. The wristband device helps people with vision loss understand facial expressions and other nonverbal cues.

Thank you to Ability Central for investing in this work!
