Book authors rarely make money.

I doubt I will ever break even on my two books. That’s fine with me. I half-joked during the writing process that my goal was to get the first book published without losing $10K.

Between the two books, my costs have been about $11K. This includes transcription services, photos, indexing fees, advertisements, complimentary copies, etc. (Keep in mind these costs don’t factor in a single penny for my time.) So far, I’ve recouped about two-thirds of my expenses.

To give you an idea of the royalties breakdown… I’ve received 8-10% for each book sold through booksellers. Because most sales are through booksellers during the Christmas season (when books are discounted), I’ve averaged only slightly more than $2 per book. I make more selling books directly, but that’s a small percentage of overall sales. Between booksellers and books sold directly, I’ve sold about 2,000 copies.

Again, I’m not doing this for money. However, losing less money would be nice. 😃

I am pleased to present the new, official poster for "Lefty O'Doul: America's Forgotten Hero."

The poster was designed by me and graphic designer/artist and good friend Kyle Miller. Kyle and I worked together at Walt Disney Imagineering 25 years ago, and he's always been a pleasure to work with.
