Welcome to Navigating Complex Anxieties...and turning them into poems! Join us on Thursday, June 26 at 5pm for a workshop and book discussion with poet Suri Chan. This is a virtual event with the author, but A Seat at the Table Books will have a live stream of the event at our brick and mortar at 9257 Laguna Springs Dr. Come be in community if you're local, or join us online. RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1379114912829?aff=oddtdtcreator
Before the virtual event, attend a book club for "But I Don't Feel Empowered" with store owner Emily! RSVP to that on our Eventbrite as well.
About the author: Suri Chan is a prize-winning poet who speaks to women, the q***r Asian community, and anyone with big feelings. Her work is inspired by her ancestors – the ones who created food that tasted like home with the herbs of their new land. Their ingredients were simple: nuts, shredded veggies, sweet sauce. But the resulting meal was always grand. Suri likes to think she does the same with everyday words.

Phones and tablets have replaced books—and that’s bad for our kids.
If you’ve ever thought about writing a children’s book to share your wisdom, now is the time:
As a concerned parent, I’ve always wanted to share the lessons I’ve learned with my kids.
Books offer a powerful way to do this.
In fact, they’re kind of like a Trojan Horse.
Instead of trying to tell my kids something they don’t want to hear…
I can just hand them a copy of one of my books.
This is how I’ve introduced them to the values I believe are important in life.
And with the meteoric rise of:
- Technology
- Social media
- Phone-based childhoods
Study after study confirms their damaging effects on children’s mental health.
I firmly believe we need more children’s books to teach our kids.
So, if you agree…
And if you’ve ever thought about writing a children’s book…
Whether to share your wisdom with the world…
Leave a lasting legacy…
Or simply fulfill your lifelong dream of becoming an author…
Then I’m inviting you to my new free masterclass:
It’s 100% free to attend, but seating is very limited.
Just click the link then enter your name and email on the next page to save your spot.

The DREF Sister Scholars’ National Reading Circle will host a virtual book discussion on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, 7:30-9:00pm EST. This year’s event will feature SHIRLEY CHISHOLM IN HER OWN WORDS, Speeches and Writings Edited by DREF Sister Scholar, Zinga A. Fraser, Ph.D.

In the midst of her trailblazing twenty-year career in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm once declared, "Everyone—with the exception of the Black woman herself—has been interpreting the Black woman." Now, in this
groundbreaking work edited by Zinga A. Fraser, the leading scholar dedicated to the study of Chisholm’s legacy, SHIRLEY CHISHOLM IN HER OWN WORDS gives readers a rare opportunity to engage with the late Congresswoman’s powerful ideas in her own
voice.

Though many Americans are familiar with Chisholm’s historical firsts—the first Black woman in Congress, the first woman and African American to run for president with either major party—this long-overdue treatment of her work establishes Chisholm as an
unparalleled public intellectual and Black feminist both in her time and now. The book not only contextualizes the Civil Rights and Black Power era, it also provides timeless wisdom on issues that are exceedingly relevant in our current moment.

Featuring a thought-provoking introduction by Fraser, SHIRLEY CHISHOLM IN HER OWN WORDS introduces a new generation to one of the most impactful proponents of democracy in
America; an inspiring orator who made a generation revise their dreams and rethink their possibilities.

You can order the book from Amazon and get ready for the book discussion on December 3rd @ 7:30 - 9:00p.m. EST. Join by using this Zoom link: TINYURL.COM/CHISHOLMINHEROWNWORDS
