What a fun and meaningful way to close out the Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival (SAPFF) this weekend—with a New Wave Party celebrating the screening of the New Wave Documentary by filmmaker Elizabeth Ai!

To the Vietnamese and Asian communities who came to America as refugees in the '80s, New Wave music (aka Euro Disco) wasn’t just a genre—it was an escape. It became the soundtrack for a generation navigating poverty, bullying, and cultural disconnection—helping them find community, healing, and strength in one another.

At NVCC, we’re proud to honor those memories and remind ourselves that even through hardship, we can find connection—and come out stronger.

🙏 Big thanks to SAPFF for giving us the platform to share this powerful story with Sacramento.
🎧 Thank you to Ian Nguyen (DJ BPM) for traveling to Sacramento and lighting up the dance floor with your incredible talent.
🍹 Thank you to Midway Bar & Grill Sacramento for providing the perfect venue to host the party.
🔊 And shoutout to Harmonic Audio Tech - H.A.T for delivering top-tier sound that kept the energy going all night long!
💃 Finally, THANK YOU to everyone who came out, rocked your '80s fits, and danced the night away—you made it unforgettable!

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon — a moment of deep loss, but also profound resilience.
We honor those who sacrificed their lives and those who fled, carrying with them pain, courage, and hope. Their strength built new lives and communities around the world.

Let us reflect on their legacy with gratitude and respect.

What an incredible day (4/28/25) at the Sacramento Capitol for AANHPI Advocacy Day! 🌟
Over 100 organizations came together in unity and purpose — starting the day with a powerful press conference alongside public officials, diving into workshops on advocacy and how to elevate our voices, and meeting with Assemblymembers and Senate offices to champion our top-priority bills.

We closed the evening with heartfelt acknowledgments and a celebration of the coalition’s strength and solidarity.

Please join us as we take a moment to reflect and honor those who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we cherish today.

This year marks the 50th commemoration of the Fall of Saigon — a somber reminder of the cost of freedom and resilience of the human spirit.

Let us come together in remembrance, gratitude, and silence for those who endured unimaginable hardship.

NVCC is proud to be a part of the Advocacy Day Coalition.
