What a fun and meaningful way to close out the Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival (SAPFF) this weekend—with a New Wave Party celebrating the screening of the New Wave Documentary by filmmaker Elizabeth Ai!
To the Vietnamese and Asian communities who came to America as refugees in the '80s, New Wave music (aka Euro Disco) wasn’t just a genre—it was an escape. It became the soundtrack for a generation navigating poverty, bullying, and cultural disconnection—helping them find community, healing, and strength in one another.
At NVCC, we’re proud to honor those memories and remind ourselves that even through hardship, we can find connection—and come out stronger.
🙏 Big thanks to SAPFF for giving us the platform to share this powerful story with Sacramento.
🎧 Thank you to Ian Nguyen (DJ BPM) for traveling to Sacramento and lighting up the dance floor with your incredible talent.
🍹 Thank you to Midway Bar & Grill Sacramento for providing the perfect venue to host the party.
🔊 And shoutout to Harmonic Audio Tech - H.A.T for delivering top-tier sound that kept the energy going all night long!
💃 Finally, THANK YOU to everyone who came out, rocked your '80s fits, and danced the night away—you made it unforgettable!
