Center for Workers' Rights

Center for Workers' Rights We strive to improve working conditions, reduce barriers to employment, and remedy workplace injustices for low-wage workers in the Sacramento area.

Founded in March 2014, the Center for Workers’ Rights will provide legal and advocacy assistance to low-income workers in Sacramento and its surrounding areas. Legal Services
The core mission of the Center for Workers’ Rights is to provide free and reduced rate legal services to the community. The Center will coordinate Workers’ Rights Clinics and Know-Your-Rights trainings on employment law issue

s for local workers, Unions, and community members. In addition, the Center will provide limited representation for low-wage workers in unemployment benefits appeals hearings, labor commissioner wage claims, and discrimination claims before administrative agencies. The Center will also selectively litigate employment law cases. The Center will rely upon volunteer attorneys and law students to sustain the Workers’ Rights Clinics and other legal services. At present, the Center anticipates offering legal services in fall 2014. Local Legislative Advocacy and Education
The Center for Workers’ Rights hopes to serve as an institutional advocate for its clients and as an expert in workers’ rights issues in the local community. The Center will advocate for local workers’ rights byconducting industry- or employer-targeted campaigns. Through its connection with its clients and the community, the Center will develop community organizing projects and provide research and legal support for those campaigns. Organizing
The Center for Workers’ Rights will seek to establish worker centers and associations in the community to bring workers together to advocate for their rights and for better working conditions.

Listen up domestic workers, are you getting paid fairly?

If you’re paid monthly convert monthly pay to weekly then to hourly

Example you get paid $1,500 per month and work 35 hours per week

$1,500 x 12 = $18,000
$18,000 / 52 = $346.15
$346.15 / 35 =$9.89 an hour

This would be below California’s minimum wage of $16.50. Workers paid cash, salary, weekly, or monthly, might not realize they are being paid below minimum wage. Always track your hours. Don’t let anyone underpay you!

Need help with figuring it out? Contact Center for Workers’s Rights and schedule a free consultation.
