With more chaotic happenings in Washington several times a day, it is hard to keep up. Every former norm has been broken. No truth, no accountability, and no moral compass, no concern for the working men and women, no concern for the children going to school wondering if they will make it home tonight, and leaders in Washington more concerned about money than people. I feel frustrated and don't know where to spend my energy. I just know that I can't sit here and fret. I am going to do just one thing a day--phone legislators, email legislators, both national and state. I am gathering petition signatures for the "Protect the Vote" amendment. I am helping our asst. clerk register students at local high schools. I continue to keep the quote from Einstein on my wall,"the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything."

I just sent this e-mail to every Republican Senator tonight. Vote NO on the GOP tax plan. Cutting health care and food stamps is not Pro-Life, it is life or death. Cutting a billion dollars from Medicaid will harm millions of vulnerable children, disabled, and elderly. The tax plan is a vicious, cruel joke. Do the right thing, Vote NO on the GOP tax revenge.

Today I sent an e-mail to every Republican senator telling why they should vote no to the tax bill. You can too by going to www.senate.gov. The entire project took about 2 hours. Corporations are not people. Money is not speech.

The Republican tax plan would cut over $5 trillion to social programs over the next 10 years and add $20 trillion to the deficit.

One trillion, $1,000,000,000,000 would be cut from Medicaid which helps children, disabled, veterans, and elderly. Medicaid pays for 2/3 of those in nursing homes. Where will they go?

Half a trillion dollars will be cut from Medicare, the most efficient, cost-effective health insurance there is which benefits all those 65 and older. First step to privatization.

Huge cuts are proposed in housing assistance, home heating assistance, agricultural subsidies, food stamps, Head Start for preschoolers, Pell grants and student loans for college students, cuts to subsidies for health insurance for the poor and small businesses, transportation and infrastructure, and medical research. Cuts target the most vulnerable and programs helping the most people.

Republican tax cuts give more money to the extremely wealthy so they can donate more money to the Republican politicians so they stay in power.

Despite widespread voter suppression and gerrymandering, we are still the vast majority. Senators and Congressmen count the number of calls they receive. Speak up, stand up, voice your concerns. Call Senator Stabenow 202-224-4822, Senator Peters 202-224-6221, and Representative Bergman 202-225-4735.

Slay the Gerrymander! Sign the petition when a circulator approaches you!

Can a group of grassroots activists change that?

We knew this was coming. Sad day for public education in the United States. The U.S. House of Representatives has introduced Bill 610. This bill will effectively start a school voucher system to be used by children ages 5 to 17, and starts the de-funding process of public schools.
The bill will eliminate the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESSA) of 1965 which is the nation's educational law and provides equal opportunity in education. It is a comprehensive program that covers programs for struggling learners, AP classes, ESL classes, classes for minorities such as Native Americans, Rural Education, Education for the Homeless, School Safety (Gun-Free schools), Monitoring and Compliance and Federal Accountability Programs.
The bill also abolishes the Nutritional Act of 2012 (No Hungry Kids Act) which provides nutritional standards in school breakfast and lunch. For our most vulnerable, this may be the ONLY nutritious food they have in a day.
The bill has no wording whatsoever protecting special needs kids, no mention of IDEA and FAPE.
Some things the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESSA) of 1965 does for Children with Disabilities:
-ensures access to the general education curriculum
-ensures access to accommodations on assessments
-ensures concepts of Universal Design for Learning
-includes provisions that require local education agencies to provide evidence-based interventions in schools with consistently underperforming subgroups
-requires states in Title I plans to address how they will improve conditions for learning including reducing incidents of bullying and harassment in schools, overuse of discipline practices and reduce the use of aversive behavioral interventions (such as restraints and seclusion).
Please call your representative and ask him/her to vote NO on House Bill 610 (HR 610) introduced by three Republican reps.

Making worse by dropping coverage for maternity care, pregnancy care, mental health services and chronic disease management, is not the country we should be, Speaker Paul Ryan. This reinstitutes discrimination we fought to end in our society.

The latest health care cut Republicans are weighing, explained
It would eliminate requirements that individual plans cover birth control, addiction, and mental health.

Many valid concerns about voting rights, reproductive rights, campaign finance, corporate vs consumer/labor rights, and environmental regulations. If confirmed there would be 6 Catholics on the Supreme Court. Hearings start Monday March 20. I will be watching. Please copy and paste to your friends.

Supporters and detractors often point to the same cases to make their arguments on President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

If you believe that voters should choose their politicians, not politicians choosing their voters, you need to come to this town hall. Be a part of the solution. Co-hosted by Voters--not Politicians and Count MI Vote. For more information www.votersnotpoliticians.com/learn-more
