🏆 This past March at our 2026 conference, we honored Shelby Anderson of Laguna Beach High School with the 2026 Carol Marquis Award for Global Understanding!

An AP Human Geography and U.S. History teacher, Shelby developed and published the lesson "What's In Your Footlocker: Understanding Women's Service in WWII" with the National WWII Museum, co-led a national professional development series on inclusive instruction, and traveled to Poland with Classrooms Without Borders for Holocaust education study.

💙 This past March at our 2026 conference, CCSS posthumously honored Linda Biewe-Elstob of the California Global Education Project with the Carol Marquis Award for Global Understanding.

Linda's work helped California educators bring the world into their classrooms, preparing students to understand and engage with global issues. That impact lives on in the teachers Linda inspired and the students they reach.

How can we move classroom discussion beyond debate and toward consensus, compromise, and meaningful civic dialogue?

Join Adam Kubey, Teacher & Teacher on Special Assignment, for a practical session exploring strategies to help students engage in structured academic discourse, consider multiple perspectives, and build the skills needed for thoughtful civic engagement.
