Could dairy milk be linked to a higher risk of breast cancer?

A study of 52,795 women found that drinking one 8-ounce (240 mL) serving of dairy milk per day was associated with a 50% higher risk of breast cancer compared with drinking no dairy milk.

Why no STVS potluck this month? Because ...

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!!

The Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge 2026 https://veganchefchallenge.org/sac/ will run through the entire month of October, and STVS is coordinating with Vegan Outreach to sponsor several dine-outs at participating restaurants.

Over 40 Sacramento-area restaurants are creating special vegan menu items just for the Challenge. If enough patrons show their support during the Challenge, these vegan items just may find a permanent place on their menus!

Come out and show your support for these local eateries. WE'RE FINALIZING OUR CHALLENGE DINE-OUT LIST AND WILL POST THIS WEEK. And while you're choosing your favorites, be sure to invite a non-vegan friend or two. The Challenge is for everyone.

📸 Help support our hard working chefs and their businesses! Share your food photos or submit Google or Yelp reviews 👉 — we’ll post, tag you, and shout them out! 🙌🍽️ The Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge is sponsored by Pho Fresh. We are proud to have Yelp as our Media Sponsor. Scroll...

Potluck on 8/22/26 at the Colonial Heights Library. The food was so scrumptious that most of it was gone within half an hour. Hope you all will join next month on 3rd Saturday at the same place. Mary Rodgers

Vancouver has banned rodeo activities involving certain practices for many years, with city council approving restrictions in 2006. The decision made Vancouver one of Canada’s first major cities to prohibit rodeo events involving practices considered inhumane to animals.

Animal welfare advocates have continued supporting the restrictions, arguing that rodeo events can expose animals to fear, stress, pain, and injury. Vancouver Humane Society continues to campaign for stronger protections for animals used in entertainment.

The decision remains an important part of Vancouver’s animal-welfare history and continues to fuel discussion about whether animals should be used for entertainment. Other communities have since considered or adopted similar restrictions.
