O.B.B.A - Old Bo (Bo School) Boys Association is a family; one with great potentials, bonds, ties, and abilities the likes of which are very rare in the Sierra Leone social fabric. From 1906 until now, as far as I'm aware of in Sierra Leone, Bo School has been the most prominent 100% full boarding school exclusively for boys, and the only school in the country whose expressed purpose was to educate and train young men to return and specifically be involved in the administration of their communities at various levels.
At Bo School we were a mix bag of youngsters from poor families and rich, pupils from different religious backgrounds, from all the regions of the country, and from parents who belonged to various, sometimes opposing political cleavages. Yet we forged some relationships in Bo school that are stronger than those found among some siblings even. Of course, even among biological families there are disagreements sometimes.
Recently we lost one of our brothers in Freetown (Patrick Gbondo aka Pee-Body). Personally I was deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from the Bo School family all around the world toward his funeral through contributions in varying sizes and forms. But one lesson that I always reflect on is that we don't have to wait until we lose someone. It is even better for us to be there for one another when we are alive.
So personally, that's the passion with which I approach my camaraderie among my OBBA brothers and OBBA itself. If I had the means, no Sierra Leonean will be left behind. In fact, to me every human being is a brother or sister that deserves LOVE with a helping hand. So as you visit this page please bear that in mind. If you attended Bo School, even for one term (trimester), please consider being an active member of the OBBA chapter closest to you. These social networks (including other school Associations, Groups, Clubs, etc. are a form of Social Security Insurance Scheme. We all need them no matter how rich or powerful each individual is!
I pray that you and your families are well during these unprecedented times.
Please Stay safe! Wear a mask when out in public and be a responsible citizen.
Check on someone and show some love! We all need each other, that's just the way God made us.
Blessings!
