Adoptable Friends of Front Street

Adoptable Friends of Front Street Volunteer run initiative aimed at promoting adoptable animals at Front Street Animal Shelter

Adoptable Friends of Front Street is a volunteer run page created by Friends of Front Street - the nonprofit partner organization to the Front Street Shelter. We are focused on promoting adoptable animals at Front Street Animal Shelter. Please review our group rules and guidelines before commenting:

1) This group is ADOPTION-FOCUSED

at Front Street. Please share posts and tag friends to help these animals find loving homes! Please do NOT focus your comments on judgment of any past presumed owners or imagined circumstances. That chapter of the animal’s life is over, and keeping the conversation focused on their past does not help them find a new family.

2) We are FRIENDS of Front Street Shelter! Friends of Front Street is the nonprofit partner organization to the Front Street Shelter. We are all on the same team and work together to support the welfare and placement of animals who find themselves in the shelter needing new homes. Rude or ugly comments about the shelter, their policies or their staff do not belong here. Members who persist in this behavior after receiving a warning will be blocked from the group.

3) This page is focused on animals at Front Street Animal Shelter. Please do not write comments about animals at other shelters or use this page to rehome your or others’ pets. If you have a pet you would like to rehome, you can post them on home-home.org.

4) Comments with misinformation about the posted animals or Front Street Animal Shelter will be removed.

If you're looking for a playful, loving pup, keep reading to learn more about Nola Roux! 🩶

"Hi my name is Nola Roux! When you see me in my kennel, I might jump up on the kennel door…I’m just trying to say 'hi' and let you know how happy I am to meet you! Once I get outside and have had a chance to sniff around and get some energy out, you’ll see how great I am on walks. I like to check in with you and when I’m not exploring, I like to walk next to you. I love treats and will sit for some if you ask me to. The shelter says I'm part Catahoula so besides having the most interesting and beautiful coat, I am also very loyal and smart! Volunteers tell me I’m very friendly and sweet too! Here are some notes from a nice foster family I got to live with for a bit: 'She is completely potty trained, had no accidents while with a foster care provider, super playful and loves squeaky toys and tug of war, will happily play catch with herself and run around the backyard for hours. Very affectionate and just wants to be next to her people, walks great on a leash when there is no distractions and will happily greet any human she meets.' If I sound like your kind of dog, check out my videos in my profile linked below and then head to the shelter to meet me!"

Please remember that the shelter is a stressful environment, and that many animals come to Front Street as strays without any known history. While staff and volunteers do their best to learn about the animal, behavior in the shelter is not always the same as behavior in a home.

The best way to meet them is to visit the shelter at 2127 Front Street, which is open 7 days a week 12pm-5pm! (The shelter is closed for all federal & some state holidays - you can check the website for the most up to date information)

If you like playing games, Bingo just might be your girl! 🤩

Here are some notes from his former foster who had to return him due to a family emergency: "Hello, my name is Bingo! I like it cause I'm a pretty typical dog! Give me toys, chew bones, or lots of play time and I'm happy as can be! I love playing with my 2 year old foster brother (Doberman mix). We run and wrestle for most of the morning. I definitely still have "big puppy energy" and should be adopted by someone willing to take on everything a puppy brings - training, energy, and understanding. I am housebroken though and have not had any accidents inside at my foster house! I am learning to walk well on a leash and am learning to not jump on people. I know "sit" and "shake" right now and am very treat motivated to learn more. I absolutely HATE squirrels and will bark until they are out of sight to keep my yard safe from them! Otherwise I only bark to let you know I want to come back inside. I am very soft (you'd never guess!) and I love to snuggle and cuddle on the couch or in bed if you'd let me! I'm a very smart girl who will become a very lovely dog for someone willing to give me a chance! If you're an active family willing to incorporate a dog (or even better, a second dog) into your home give me a chance! Due to my energy and excitement, I should go to a home with a larger yard (or access to frequent runs/walks) and no small children or cats please! I would love another big (or sturdy) dog to play with! My foster family has two other big dogs and I've learned to join the pack really well!"

**Due to the shelter being full, at the time of posting Bingo is kenneled in a building out of public view so you'll need to ask staff to meet her.**

Free adoptions until Sept 15th sound like a great excuse to us to adopt this sweet boy! 🥰

"Hi, my name is Jason, and I am a charming 3-year-old pup overflowing with love and tenderness. I lean in for affection and I love being rubbed. For me, the best seat in the house will always be your lap. I am super silly and clumsy, but some say that’s what makes me so charming! I am treat motivated, so learning commands and tricks isn’t too hard. I'm potty trained, and I know sit, stay/wait, come, and to only jump on the couch when invited. I’ve almost learned lay down and high-five as well. I am crate trained and do well when left home alone. I love meeting and saying hi to other dogs. I have lived with another dog and we quickly became good friends. I play very well and have gotten along with all the dogs I have met. (Though slow intros are always key when bringing a new dog into the home.) Fetch and chew toys will have me entertained for hours! I’m a playful boy who likes activity, but after a long day taking a nap in your lap is all I want to do. If I sound like your kind of guy, check out my video on my profile linked below and then come on down to the shelter to meet me!"

Meet sweet & snuggly Titan 🧡

"Hey there! I'm Titan and I would love to meet you! I came to Front Street in June and was quickly adopted. I spent over a month living with what I hoped would be my furever family but sadly, and through no fault of my own, was returned. Here I am again, and I hope to find my perfect match soon.

A few great things about me: I am potty-trained, I know my basic commands, and I walk well on a leash. I am good with children and have also shown I am good with other dogs (a slow and proper introduction, please!). I love treats and accept them very gently. I love cuddles, b***y scratches, and just want to be close to my people. Check out my video in my profile linked below and please come meet me!"

Pogo Stick is bouncing with joy at the chance to meet you! 😄

"Hi, I’m Pogo Stick, because I am kennel-stressed and have been jumping straight up in the air to get out. But once I’m out, I am mellow and easy on leash and very affectionate. See for yourself in my video on my profile linked below! I have a roommate dog here and he’s been helping me feel more confident. I also showed a lot of interest to meet other dogs when I was on leash with volunteers. Just please use slow intros if you are bringing me home to a resident dog! That’s always so important for us shelter dogs. I hope you’ll come meet me today. I’m going to be the best dog once I’m in a safe comfortable home."

If you're looking for a {star} to add some light to your life, we've got the dog for you! ⭐

"Hi, I'm Star (Little One), because I am pretty petite, though I am probably also still growing, as I am not yet 1 year-old. I am a little shy but I love treats, and so you can build my confidence that way. Volunteers are working with me to make sure I continue to like walks on leash. I do love to be around humans and I also came in with a fellow female, so chances are I can do okay with a doggie friend, if you give us a chance to warm up slowly. Most dogs need that and rush intros can be detrimental to us building relationships with other dogs. Check out my video in my profile linked below and then come to the shelter to meet me!"

We've got a royally special dog for you to meet today! 👸

"Hi, I'm Queenie and I'm a beautiful girl who's ready to find my forever home. I love treats, and I want to be near humans so if you give me some hot dogs or something, I'm ready to be your new best friend. I came in with another female so I will possibly do okay with another dog in the home with a slow introduction, as all dogs need! Since first coming in, I've really started coming out of my shell! I enjoy going for walks now plus I know how to sit, and I love receiving pets and giving kisses. Check out my video in my profile linked below, and then come to the shelter to meet me!"

If you've been looking for a dog, we've got a {major} winner here for you! 🏅

"Hi, I’m Major, the most stunning, overlooked Mal around! I glide across the ground with pure stealth and yes, I do need to be kept away from cats. But so far I seem to be good with dogs—please use slow intros recommended by staff—and humans, oh boy don’t get me started on how much I love them! Loyal, eager to learn, amazing on leash, I will stay by your side and never let you down. I am potty-trained, although I might need a refresher after being in the shelter for awhile, and I’ve been reported to be good with kids age 2 and up. Check out my video in my profile linked below and then bring the whole family to meet me!"

Is a thing? Because if so, we're excited to introduce you to this sweet girl! 🐾

Meet Misty! A land hippo who is looking for her furever home! This sweetheart is a mellow girl who just wants some love. A great walking buddy and non reactive on leash. On a walk, Misty came across a dog who started being loud and reactive and she glanced back and then kept going with no needed push from the volunteer. Listens great and knows sit. She seems to like dogs her own speed, not the young energetic ones. This baby girl wants to be your best couch potato and give you all the love and cuddles she has to offer. Check out her video in her profile linked below, and then come say hi and fall in love!

Here's a flower for your Friday 🌼

Meet Marigold! This gorgeous girl is just over a year old and so sweet. She is tall and thin, weighing a little over 50 lbs. She is very dog friendly and loves people including kids. She listens great and is very eager to please. She can be jumpy but is redirected very easily, and once she lets off some steam, it doesn’t seem to happen anymore. Very playful and loving, she would make such a perfect furbaby. This girl would thrive in an active lifestyle, she is more of a snuggles after a hike or adventure dog rather than a couch potato. She really is a complete package and deserves a family she can love and loves her. Check out her video in her profile linked below and then stop by the shelter to meet her!
