Studies show that babies whose parents receive marital intervention during pregnancy tend to cry less, are calmer, and develop better attention skills than those who don’t. In 2007, Drs. John and Julie Gottman penned the book And Baby Makes Three, stating, “The greatest gift a couple can give their baby is a loving relationship, because that relationship nourishes Baby’s development. The stronger

the connection between parents, the healthier the child can grow, both emotionally and intellectually.”

Little Elf Family Services, is accredited to present the Bringing Baby Home ™ workshops created by the Gottman Institute. Owner Lara Elfstrand is dedicated to helping families to fall in love with parenting... together.

When the world feels loud, heavy, and overwhelming, I remind myself of this:

The work that matters most is often small, slow, and close to home.

Raising children who know how to pause, repair, take turns, express needs, and stay curious is not separate from creating a more just and humane world. It’s part of it.

This February, I’m offering a Valentine’s retreat for families in pregnancy, postpartum, or with children up to age 5 in the greater Sacramento area.

We’ll focus on how to model respect, regulation, playfulness, and connection so our kids can grow up being light in complicated times.

Raising grounded, compassionate kids is not a small thing. It’s world-shaping work.

If this resonates, I’d love to have you with us. 🤍

A small electronic device stopped working today and I had to stop and figure out how to get it working. It just needed a new battery, but in order to get to the battery I had to find a Phillips screwdriver that was just the right size to be able to open the battery compartment. I had to try all kinds of screwdrivers to be able to find one that was not too big and not too small, and once I found the right tool then I was able to get the job done quickly and easily. Most of my time was taken up just finding the right tool for the job. That's what my clients like about working with me too! I have a toolbox FULL of tools for parenting, marriage, and mental health so that we can build a mood worth spreading within what we can control. I'm good at asking questions to help you to figure out which tool might be the most effective for the job at hand. My goal is that in the end you feel seen and heard, we've explored some options together, and you have made a get-started choice about whatever situation you are facing. The truth is that parenting is a process of trial and error, and I can't completely take that away. But I can help you to fill your toolbox and to match which tool you might need for which job. I love that! What is your biggest parenting challenge right now? Do you know what tool you need? DM me your biggest question!

What’s it like to work together? It’s fun. It’s about being heard. It’s about brainstorming. It’s about gaining more tools for sleep, parenting, stress management, and more. It’s about creating a mood worth spreading to those you love and care about. Who do you know who could use that?

I recommended this song to a client this morning and now I am singing it to Charlie (with slightly altered words) to encourage him that he can be alone and is still safe. Let's all sing it together! Guaranteed to get stuck in your head in the best way!:

This video was recommended to me by one of my families because it works so well for her sweet kiddo. It might say it's for autism, but I generally think that things for autism are helpful for just about anyone! I can feel my shoulders melt as I listen to it. I put it on for my dog Charlie and he went into his house and took a nap!
