🌍 World Animal Day: Celebrating Our Endangered Ambassadors 🌍

Sunday, October 4th · 2:00–4:00 PM

World Animal Day has been observed around the world since 1925, on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals. We're marking it with the birds who need it most.

Meet Gilligan, Will and Zachary — Blue-Throated Macaws, listed as Critically Endangered. Fewer than 500 remain in the wild, and every one of them lives in a single region of northeastern Bolivia.

There's good news worth celebrating, too: this past season saw the highest number of chicks ever fledged in the wild — 17, across eight nests. The wild population is holding steady. Conservation is working.

You'll also meet Lo**ta and Peanut, our Yellow-Naped Amazons, also Critically Endangered, and our Sun Conures, listed as Endangered.

Four decades ago, when we began this work, the Yellow-Naped Amazon wasn't on the list at all.

Observation experience · All ages · Limited to 20 guests

$50 per person — fully tax-deductible. Feathered Ambassadors and Friends is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

🍂 First Friday is for Families: Fall Flights 🍂

The summer heat has broken and the light has turned gold on The Divide. Our free-flying macaws take to a crisp October sky — color, grace, and freedom in flight. ✨

🦅 Nature's majestic flight.🦅

Meet Sr. Jefe. In Spanish, it means "Mr. Boss." We didn't pick the title — he did.

This is our Andean Condor on his sunset flight over the Sierra foothills: one of the largest flying birds on Earth, wingspan reaching ten feet, gliding home to his favorite rock beneath a sky painted in gold and vibrant orange. Watch the way every feather works — primaries steering, tail balancing, each one playing its part. Nature's orchestra in flight. Many instruments, one beautiful song.

Condors are among the most misunderstood and most magnificent birds alive — nature's essential cleanup crew, soaring on thermals for hours with barely a wingbeat. We're honored to share our skies with this one.

Told to go play outside while the house gets cleaned 🧹

So they did. ☀️

Ten macaws — seven Blue and Golds, two Blue-Throated, and one Scarlet — taking morning recess very seriously while the housekeeping happened indoors. Fun and happy in the morning sun, exactly as instructed.

Some households send the kids out to play. Ours just has more feathers.

☀️ I think I'll go for a walk outside now...

Stymie clearly got the memo about sunshine days. Here's our Eleonora Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo perched in the blooming mimosa tree, pink silk blossoms for company, summer sun callin' his name. 🌸

He found one of the prettiests seat on the property — and he knows it.
