Join us on Friday, Oct 2, from 5-8 PM!
Held alongside Oak Park’s First Friday activities, the evening celebrates the people, places, and partnerships that bring Alchemist CDC’s work to life. Guests are invited to explore the garden at their own pace, connect with one another, and experience our work across food access, economic empowerment, and community-based placemaking.
What To Expect:
Enjoy wine tasting, live music, and bites from Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program (AKIP) entrepreneurs Jerk Street Tacos, Nacho House, Warm Nuts and Hot Buns, and Sugar Coated Cupcakes.
Activities and learning stations throughout the garden will offer a closer look at Alchemist CDC’s programs and impact. Guests can also discover the many improvements made to Oak Park Sol over the past two years through investments from our friends in Leadership Sacramento’s Class of 2025 and at Blue Shield of California.
Attendees will receive a map highlighting nearby Alchemist CDC Gardens spaces, including Oak Park Art Garden and Pansy Community Garden Park, as well as local restaurants and businesses to visit as they continue their First Friday evening in the neighborhood.
With minimal formal programming and plenty to celebrate, Root Down, Rise Up will be an evening among friends, rooted in community, with the goal of raising critical support for Alchemist CDC’s mission.

The Alliance is an early-stage global community coordinating action on urgent global crises, extreme poverty, environmental destruction, democratic decline, and the risks of unchecked technology. Members complete short, expert-guided projects each week, from data collection to child-safety reviews, with real, measurable impact.
They're currently invitation-only, which means joining now means helping shape this model from the ground up.

SB 501 (Allen) updates the Responsible Battery Recycling Act of 2022, originally sponsored by CPSC, CAW, and Rethink Waste. The new legislation organized covered batteries into new the weight and watt-hour rating-based categories “small format” and “medium format.”
On August 24th, the bill passed the Assembly 62-14 and Senate concurred with the Assembly on August 31st, sending the bill to the governor's desk. By expanding producer responsibility for batteries, this bill supports a circular economy and helps keep hazardous materials out of California communities.
