Don’t forget to secure your tickets to the Benito Juárez Gala on June 27th at the Ben Ali Center 3262 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95815

This is more than a celebration — it’s a night to lift up the Sheroes and Heroes of our community, the ones who show up every single time for our Benito Juárez familias.

These are the Guerreros/as who bring gifts for our annual Posadas, who help us keep food on the table during our weekly distributions, and who stand with our families in every moment of need. Their love, their labor, and their generosity keep our mission alive.
Help me congratulate:
Regina Ali
Lt. Morales
Rick Buenrostro
Marlon Lara
Martin Rodriguez

Yesterday, our Benito Juárez Foundation launched the program “Las Semillitas” for the very first time. It was a powerful gathering that brought together mothers with young children under 5 who are carrying the weight of isolation, trauma, and the pain of starting over in a new country.

I thought the name "Semillitas" was appropriate and it came from the belief that even in the hardest soil, we can plant seeds of hope. And yesterday, we saw those seeds begin to take root.

The stories shared were heartbreaking—mothers who fled countries where violence is a daily reality, mothers who left behind parents, siblings, and in some cases, their own children. Many spoke of loneliness so deep it keeps them inside their homes. Yet in that room, surrounded by other women who understood their journey, they found the courage to speak, to breathe, to begin healing.

We were deeply honored to have Dr. Nora Rodriguez, whose compassion and expertise created a space where our moms felt seen, safe, and supported. This is only the beginning; more sessions will follow, each one addressing the challenges our families face with dignity and care.

Our heartfelt thanks to Sacramento First 5, the Sacramento Urban League for generously providing the space, to Roger Dickinson’s office for helping secure the location, and to Carolina Flores, Director of Communications, whose vision, persistence, and countless calls from the MIND Institute and beyond—made this launch possible.

It truly takes a Barrio and yesterday, our Barrio showed up!
