Elder’s Choice, Inc. Begins a New Social Movment - Push Back on Elder Abuse.
Elder’s Choice, the consulting group for senior living communities has begun rolling out a new social movement campaign condemning elder abuse. Unfortunately, elder abuse is all too common and at high risk for increasing due to a sharp rise in elderly individuals over the next 10-20 years. Various statistics show that in fact 1-24 cases of elder abuse actually get reported. This is mostly due to the victims themselves feeling ashamed, embarrassed, or afraid to report their abuser.
PUSH BACK hopes to curb this by offering education, resources and advocacy services to individuals who feel they’re victims of elder abuse. “We want individuals and their families to understand what constitutes elder abuse as well as how and where to report it” says Michael Bilger, President/CEO of Elder’s Choice, Inc. “We work with many facilities and continue to educate their staff on what elder abuse is and the reporting requirements, but we know more on-going education is necessary to help create a powerful awareness; moreover, facilities should pledge their support towards pushing back on elder abuse and create a strong front within their communities.”
PUSH BACK wants every type of senior service company to join and pledge support. Uniquely, this movement is not asking for donations, rather just a firm support and a desire to be a recognizable figure in PUSH BACK’s efforts towards community awareness. “All we care about is stopping elder abuse. Many of us know of someone possibly even a family member of our own who’s been a victim. Speaking up and pushing back helps the victim from further abuse and on-going occurrences to others”, stated Bilger.
A page has been created to begin awareness and additional events will be forthcoming including speaking engagements, support groups, and more. A monthly newsletter is also planned. PUSH BACK wants all senior living communities, skilled nursing, hospitals, in-home care, home health and more to let their communities know that they “Push Back” on elder abuse. Only together can a difference be made. Start my liking our page today.
