Aliyah Armstrong entered the foster care system at age 10. Today, she is the first Crawford High School Law Academy student to graduate from law school and pass the Bar exam. Driven by her family's experiences and a deep personal resilience, she recognized early on that the law could protect vulnerable families—and she made it her mission to become an attorney to help reform the system.

Her historic milestone highlights the transformative power of mentorship and programs that create accessible pathways into the legal profession. Behind every aspiring lawyer is a family whose support makes their dreams possible.

For Jose Solis, watching his daughter Amelia receive the Ruthe Catolico Ashley "Pathway to Law" Scholarship was a moving milestone. Amelia, a recent graduate of the California Legal Pathways Collaborative (CLPC) Law Academy, is now heading to college to start her journey toward a legal career.

Programs like the CLPC do much more than teach the law. They actively empower first-generation and underrepresented students to turn their ambitions into reality.

Representation matters, especially when it comes from the highest courts in the land.

High school students from the California Legal Pathways Collaborative (CLPC) recently experienced an unforgettable fireside chat with three trailblazing Latina justices:

- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
- California Supreme Court Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero
- Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Mary Murguia

These leaders shared a powerful message with the students: "Be a compass, not a watch." Their advice serves as a vital reminder of how mentorship and visible representation can empower the next generation of legal professionals to chart their own course.

Meet the future of the legal profession: Maridel De Los Reyes and Alison Hwang.

For many first-generation students, a career in law can feel completely out of reach. The California Legal Pathways Collaborative (CLPC) changes that narrative. Through high school Law Academies, CLPC provides the exact tools students need to succeed: vital mentorship, scholarships, and hands-on legal experience.

Both Maridel and Alison discovered their passion for advocacy through CLPC programs. Today, they are thriving university students and interns at the California Lawyers Foundation, actively helping other underrepresented students find their path to law school. On February 26, the California Legal Pathways Collaborative (CLPC) Legislative Day transformed the State Capitol into a classroom for 300 high school students.

This inspiring event gave students a firsthand look at democracy in action. They engaged in meaningful discussions with legislators and judges about ethics, civility, and diversity in the legal profession. Speakers like former Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye and CLA President Terrance J. Evans shared powerful stories, showing students that their dreams are within reach.

The day was a testament to the power of mentorship and creating pathways for the next generation of legal leaders.
