For more than a century, this great organization has stood as a powerful voice for veterans, service members, their families, and our communities.

Built on the pillars of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth, The American Legion continues to honor the sacrifices of those who served while shaping a stronger future for our nation.

Today we celebrate not just an organization, but a legacy of service, patriotism, and comradeship that began in 1919 and lives on through every Legionnaire who carries the mission forward.

Happy Birthday, American Legion — and thank you for continuing to serve America! 🇺🇸🎂🦅

Last night we were honored to be able to present a donation to Plumas Lake Scout Troop 270 for outstanding support in our community. We were particularly impressed with their volunteerism with the Plumas Lake Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony this past December.

We in the Legion tremendously value our Scouting Program. We know it is one of the greatest investments we can make in our young people.

It builds character when no one is watching. It teaches leadership by giving responsibility early. It turns teamwork into action and service into a way of life.

Scouting isn’t just about camping or earning badges — it’s about learning integrity, respect, resilience, and commitment.

THANK YOU Troop 270!

Our General Membership Meeting is tomorrow (3/3) at 6pm Pioneer Hall.

The American Legion gives us a way to keep serving and supporting veterans, mentoring our youth, strengthening our communities, and standing up for the benefits and care our warrior brothers and sisters have earned.

It gives us a voice when veterans need to be heard. And it gives us purpose when we’re searching for the next way to make a difference!

Join us and continue the mission. The Post will pay for your first years Membership!

Today we took the opportunity to come together as a Post Family and share in fellowship!! Thank you to James Byrd for organizing this amazing event!! Also a HUGE SHOUT out to Bills Place for that PHENOMENAL meal!!

We felt it extremely important that we celebrate our mission and the people who bring it to life.

Our Post stands as a symbol of service and sacrifice. It represents men and women who answered the call to defend our nation and who continue to serve long after the uniform comes off.

We also value and have a deep understanding of camaraderieship. In our Post, veterans find understanding, support, and fellowship. In a world that can feel isolating, this Post reminds us that no veteran stands alone.

So to every member of American Legion Bear River Post 789 and your families we say THANK YOU! Let us take pride in what we have built together. Let us honor those who came before us, support those beside us, and inspire those who will follow.

Because when we celebrate our Post, we celebrate service, community, and the enduring strength of the American spirit.

Veterans Day Message
From the American Legion – Bear River Post 789

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform—those who stood watch so the rest of us could live in freedom. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to something greater than themselves remind us of the very best of what it means to be American.

At Bear River Post 789, we are proud to stand alongside our veterans, their families, and our community. We are inspired every day by the strength, resilience, and quiet leadership our veterans bring to Wheatland, Plumas Lake and the surrounding region. Their service did not end when they took off the uniform—it continues in the way they uplift others, support one another, and strengthen the communities we all call home.

On this Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who served. May we honor them not just with words, but through our actions—by caring for our veterans, supporting their families, and carrying forward the values they fought to protect.

To all veterans: thank you. Your legacy guides us, your courage inspires us, and your service will never be forgotten.

What an incredible meeting tonight! Our Post came together in true American Legion spirit to support the future of our youth and community. We’re proud to announce that Bear River Post 789 has donated $2,500 to help make Sober Grad Night 2026 a success.

This event gives our graduating seniors a safe, memorable celebration — and that’s a mission we’re proud to stand behind. Supporting our local students aligns perfectly with the Legion’s commitment to community, education, and responsible citizenship.

We’re honored to do our part to invest in our future leaders. If you’d like to support Sober Grad Night, we’d be happy to connect you with the leaders of that group.
