Placer County residents, it takes all of contributing to our communities to build the beloved community. Your contributions matter, be a part of history. “We will build it together.”

Dear community partners,

As Placer County continues observances this year for the 175th anniversary of our founding, we’ve launched a community oral history project, inspired by StoryCorps, to honor and preserve the stories of our residents.

We want to hear from as many of our community members as we can, and we would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about this opportunity.

Recording an interview for Placer 175 is a chance for folks to ask someone they know about their life. It can also serve as a great journalism or history project for students, or an engagement opportunity for nonprofit or community groups.

Recordings will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, as well as locally at the Placer County Museum Archive. Interviews recorded before Oct. 10 may also be included in a time capsule Placer County will place at the Placer County Museum in Auburn, to be opened in 2101 for the county’s 250th anniversary.

Using StoryCorps’ Do It Yourself program resources, participants can record interviews from anywhere using the StoryCorps Connect website or the StoryCorps app. Or they may attend a hosted in-person recording session facilitated by county staff at locations throughout the county.

More information about how to participate is available on our Placer 175 Oral History Project web page at Placer 175 Oral History.

Interviews may be conducted in any language, though the StoryCorps user interfaces are only currently available in English. More information on non-English interviews is available on StoryCorps’ frequently asked questions web page.

We’ve made digital marketing materials available for your download and use if you are inclined to share. We can make printed materials like fliers and table tents available free of charge by request. If you have any questions about the project or need any assistance with your outreach, please reach out to Chris Gray-Garcia with the county’s Communications and Public Affairs Office at [email protected] or 530-886-4629.

Thank you!

See Their Potential. Invest in Their Future.

Help seeMYchild Raise $25,000 During Black Philanthropy Month
Every young person deserves to be seen, heard, valued, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.

This August, during Black Philanthropy Month, we invite you to help seeMYchild raise $25,000 to invest in young people, strengthen families, and build more connected communities.
And your generosity can go even further this month.

Givebutter is matching $20,000 in donations to Black-led nonprofits. Eligible Black-led organizations can receive a 5% match on qualifying donations made on Givebutter through August 31.

That means there is no better time to DONATE NOW and invest in the work of seeMYchild

Hello Placer County area partners,

We're excited to share that following the success of our first-ever free community screening day for uninsured and underinsured women, we have added two additional screening event dates at Maidu Regional Park!

Attached are the flyers for the upcoming events on Wednesday, September 9 and Monday, October 5.

We would greatly appreciate your support in helping spread the word about these opportunities to eligible community members. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, requests for breast cancer education sessions, or if you'd like to discuss the best ways to share these events with individuals who may benefit.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

Very best,
Marissa
