I appreciated the opportunity to attend the 12th Annual Forum on the Latino Community: Bridging the Gap Between Immigration Policy and Its Relationship to Our Communities. The forum provided an important space for learning, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of how immigration policy extends beyond legislation and directly impacts individuals, families, workplaces, schools, and communities.

Our keynote speaker, Kevin R Johnson, Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus, Director of the Aoki Center, and Professor Emeritus of Chicana/o Studies, provided valuable perspective on immigration policy in our current environment and the implications for the communities we serve.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to remain informed, listen to the lived experiences of those affected by policy decisions, and understand how those decisions show up locally.

Thank you to the organizers, speakers, and community members who continue to create opportunities for thoughtful dialogue around issues affecting our region.

They Shared. We Listened. And Together, We’re Creating Change.

seeMYchild was honored to partner with Resilient Placer to host the Youth & Stakeholder Equity Exchange Brunch 2026 on Saturday!

What a powerful and meaningful exchange! We brought together diverse youth leaders and community stakeholders to have honest conversations about the issues impacting youth mental health and substance use—and, more importantly, to explore how we can create positive and meaningful change in our communities.

Our young people shared their lived experiences, perspectives, concerns, and ideas. We listened. They helped identify concrete steps and opportunities for action that can make a real difference.
We are excited about the future collaborations, initiatives, and partnerships that will grow from this important conversation. When we create space for young people to lead, listen to their voices, and value their lived experiences, we create stronger and healthier communities.

Give our students the tools. Give them the space. Then get out of the way—they are PHENOMENAL!

A huge thank you to all of the stakeholders who made space in their schedules and in the conversation to join us. Your presence, partnership, and willingness to listen matter.

The work continues. The voices of our youth matter. And together, we can create change.

Placer County residents, it takes all of contributing to our communities to build the beloved community. Your contributions matter, be a part of history. “We will build it together.”

Dear community partners,

As Placer County continues observances this year for the 175th anniversary of our founding, we’ve launched a community oral history project, inspired by StoryCorps, to honor and preserve the stories of our residents.

We want to hear from as many of our community members as we can, and we would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about this opportunity.

Recording an interview for Placer 175 is a chance for folks to ask someone they know about their life. It can also serve as a great journalism or history project for students, or an engagement opportunity for nonprofit or community groups.

Recordings will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, as well as locally at the Placer County Museum Archive. Interviews recorded before Oct. 10 may also be included in a time capsule Placer County will place at the Placer County Museum in Auburn, to be opened in 2101 for the county’s 250th anniversary.

Using StoryCorps’ Do It Yourself program resources, participants can record interviews from anywhere using the StoryCorps Connect website or the StoryCorps app. Or they may attend a hosted in-person recording session facilitated by county staff at locations throughout the county.

Interviews may be conducted in any language, though the StoryCorps user interfaces are only currently available in English. More information on non-English interviews is available on StoryCorps’ frequently asked questions web page.

We’ve made digital marketing materials available for your download and use if you are inclined to share. We can make printed materials like fliers and table tents available free of charge by request.
