🔥 CALDWELL PARISH LANDOWNERS, HUNTERS, & FIRE-MINDED FOLKS! 🔥

Have you ever wanted to use prescribed fire on your property for wildlife or forest management? We’re hosting an interest meeting to kick off a Prescribed Burn Association in Caldwell Parish and other surrounding areas!

📅 Wednesday, May 27th, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Caldwell Parish Library
211 Jackson St, Columbia, LA 71418

Prescribed burning is a commonly recommended land management tool, but can present challenges for landowners with limited experience and confidence to carry out without professional help. Prescribed burning associations (PBA’s) consist of landowners and other concerned citizens creating partnerships to conduct prescribed burns - Neighbors Helping Neighbors Getting Fire Back on the Ground. Through the sharing of knowledge, equipment, time, and experience the PBA can reduce risk, safely increase burned acres and help landowners accomplish their habitat management goals.

If you’re passionate about wildlife habitat, forest health, wildfire risk or overall land management, this is for you. Let’s work together to use good fire safely and effectively. 💪🔥

Concerns that prescribed burners in Alabama have to deal with while trying to accomplish as many burn acres as possible. it is my firm belief that getting as much fire on the landscape is a benefit to both wildlife and the environment.

1) don’t burn during deer season, it messes up my hunting. This takes out most of November, December, January, and part of February.

2) don’t burn during nesting season (we also hear don’t burn during turkey season!). I have found woodcock nests in the end of February and hatched Woodcock chicks in March. I have found plenty of turkey nests in March and I found them in July. The conclusion, not burning during nesting season takes out the end of February through July.

3) don’t burn when Turkey poults, and fawns are on the ground . I have seen poults hatch in the middle of April and I’ve seen young fawns in the end of August.
That means no burning until September

Burning will get criticized, regardless of the timeframe. As much as I hate it, it’s simply reality.
