Some people teach lessons with words and Roy did that too.

But more than that, Roy taught them by how he lived.

Long before The Anchored Owl ever existed, Bill learned what hard work looked like from his dad. Not the kind that gets posted online—the kind that shows up every day, whether anyone is watching or not.

Roy faced challenges that would have stopped most people. Instead, he adapted, kept farming, trained Border Collies, traveled the country, won championships, judged competitions, and continued doing the things he loved.

He taught us that obstacles don’t get the final say.

He taught us that excuses don’t build anything.

He taught us that showing up matters.

As we continue building furniture, growing our business, and chasing our goals, those lessons are woven into everything we do.

The Anchored Owl may be our business, but the grit, determination, and work ethic behind it were shaped by people like Roy.

We’re going to miss him more than words can say.

But we’re grateful for the example he left behind. ā¤ļøāš“

We lost a loving father and a man that we admired so much. He was a man that quietly showed the world who he was by his actions and perseverance. He will be dearly missed. Roy Johnson, you impacted the lives of so many. We hope you are telling jokes and laughing with family and friends and working those dogs in Heaven. I bet you have the best and biggest Massey Ferguson riding around up there. ā¤ļø

There are some people whose presence feels as permanent as the land they walk on. Roy Johnson was one of those people.

Some people spend their lives talking about hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Roy Johnson lived it every single day.

If you knew Roy, you knew a man who never quit. A man whose hands built a life, whose heart carried his family, and whose determination could outwork just about anyone. Even after losing both of his hands in a farming accident, he refused to let tragedy define him. Instead, he adapted, persevered, and continued doing what he loved—working the land, training his beloved Border Collies, and caring for the people and animals who meant the world to him.

It’s hard to imagine the farm without him. Hard to imagine the fields, the dogs, the family gatherings, or the stories without Roy somewhere in the middle of it all. He was the kind of man who seemed larger than life—not because he sought attention, but because of the strength, resilience, humor, and love he carried with him every day.

Roy wasn’t just my father-in-law; from the very beginning, he treated me like family.

He had a way of making people feel welcome, loved, and accepted. I was one of the few people who could give him a hard time, and he’d give it right back. He’d try to keep a straight face, but if you watched closely, you could see that grin creeping in. Those little moments are some of the memories I’ll treasure most.

Roy was strong, hardworking, and resilient, but he was also funny. He laughed often, loved deeply, and never stopped caring for the people and animals around him. Whether it was his family, his dogs, or the farm he loved so much, Roy gave his whole heart to the things that mattered.

He was the kind of man people admired, respected, and looked up to. The kind of man whose story will be told for generations. A man who faced unimaginable challenges and kept moving forward with determination, grit, and grace.

He laughed. He loved. He was a legend.

And while our hearts are broken, we are incredibly grateful for the time we had with him. The farm won’t be the same without him. Family gatherings won’t be the same without him. Life won’t be the same without him.

We are going to miss him more than words can ever say. ā¤ļø

Good Morning!

Meet our shop manager, Lucy the dachshund.

She is great at round the clock security, mousy hunting, eating anything small that flies, and inspecting every furniture piece we do to ensure the highest of quality to meet her approval. I’m serious…she really does this and the side eye when you mess up is atrocious 😁
