If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Galahad is one of my all time favorites. He was so thin, so sad, so lame, and so bug infested on arrival we thought he might not recover. He did recover though and in spectacular fashion! He was adopted out twice and spent some time with a couple trainer friends but nothing ever stuck. He was such a perfect gentleman here we just didn't get it. We had more than a year into his rehab we sure wouldn't give up. Now third times the charm on adoption! Just look at him now, so happy and healthy. He just needed the right home! This is why we ALWAYS want horses to come back to CHRN. We will keep working to find that perfect situation! Congrats buddy. I'm glad I'll get to see you from time to time. 💕

This mare is now safe!

"Ivy" was sold last week at the monthly horse special as a possible barrel horse. This week she's back. No story, no info, and very lame. We were able to pull her, but we were pushed too high on her and we went over budget. This often happens when we list the horse we intend to buy prior to auction. Traders like to use the money they make on their feedlot scams to outbid the rescues that refuse to work with them. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about it. Ivy is now safe with a private foster where she will be kept warm and dry in the first taste of winter Colorado will see this October. We did fall short of our fundraising goal by about $220. Any funds after that will cover her vet visit and xrays. Thank you to our great followers and partners for making this possible in such a short amount of time!

Ella was born at CHRN in August of '22 to one of my all time favorite donkeys, Cinder. She was adopted but after a few years found herself in need of a home again so of course she came back to us to get more training and find a new "forever" home. She was floated today and will start with some pack training this weekend!

This weekend was a tremendous success!
41 horses assisted!

Old horses floated, stallions castrated, horses who were suffering given release. We are thankful for our amazing team of volunteers, our sponsors and of course our amazing vet Alyssa King!

Allowing horses to stay in their homes work low cost or free vet care is an extremely important mission to us. Seeing horses surrendered when they have great homes and just need a little help is heartbreaking. I wish we had the funding to offer these all over the state.

We just arrived home with 13 surrenders for vet day tomorrow. More to come. 💕

Today we had TWELVE surrenders and buy outs and six euthanasias along with a full day of floats and castrations. Talk about a big first day! Thanks to my amazing volunteers and the folks of GVHR.

We can finally end the radio silence on auction day!
As most of you know we do much better at auction when we don't announce our intention to bid or try to fundraise horses. It's a dumb game, but sometimes it pays off big. Yesterday was one of those days. I set our hard limit at $1200 knowing we could cover that and the auction girls sent me a few very in need horses. I sent them to my bidder hoping we could help one. Last auction we bid we ran lame, older horses to $1000 ea. So our expectations were one of the older crippled horses. Well we were beyond fortunate. We didn't just save one, or two... we saved FIVE! Each and every one in great need as that's what we identify as the horses least likely to go to homes and end up at risk.

We've got an emaciated mini, a slipper footed feral mini, a sweet older gray gelding with horrible angular limb deformity from severe arthritis, a gray unhandled young male horse with a huge hole in his groin, and a very aged very sway backed paint pony that needs some tlc. All five within our budget...

So here's the part where we need our amazing followers! First, we need to fundraise the $1200. That's only $240 a head! For that we changed the stars for five lives, one will be given release from a failing body and four others will begin their new lives with vetting, farrier care, food and training! We usually have to raise this for one or two horses.. this time it's so many we were able to help.

Second, they need NAMES! Everyone can share their favorite names under the pics of each horse.

STOP FALLING FOR THESE FAKE PLEAS!
This is a FAKE POST. The image is AI. This image was shared by six of my Facebook friends, just look at the stats, 60 shares! Scammers create social media pages for fake rescues and some even work hard to make it look legit with an address, info and tons of pictures. The address is fake or goes to an empty lot or a property that's been for sale for a long time. They use vemno, cash app, and other easy ways to collect funds easily online for "donations". You think you've saved a horse and no one follows up. The scam is complete.
We recently had an applicant cancel their adoption appointment when they found a rescue with several sound, young, beginner broke geldings for $800 adoption fees. I did warn them but I think it was preceived as jealousy that they were adopting elsewhere. $800 adoption fee, $600 to ship the horse to Colorado from Texas... many of you are screaming scam at the top of your lungs and you would be right. Their money is gone, the horse didn't exist. The rescue didn't either. The shipper was fake. They no longer want to adopt "any" horse because all rescues must be scams. Honestly it's very easy to FAKE a rescue because almost no one actually checks them out before donating. After all if you take time to research the organization this baby foal at auction might not saved in time! That's the hook, and so many fall victim. At a conference a few years back a presenter showed how easily they used AI to create an entire rescue with photos, videos, a social media presence. With zero advertising or tagging they had followers and likes within hours. No one could tell they didn't exist. People want to badly to help they send the money never questioning anything. There are so many bad rescues and sanctuaries out there we have to combat daily and now there's completely fake ones too. Please use an abundance of caution when donating. It's easier to verify non profit status than you think with state websites. You can also research non profit standings with places like GuideStar and Charity Navigator. CHRN holds a platinum rating with GuideStar and we are proud to share our transparency.

Did you know...
Every horse arriving at CHRN has it's teeth evaluated and is usually floated on intake? We also take xrays if needed, deworm, treat for lice and clean sheaths, etc. We try to be sure horses are current on care before they begin formal evaluations so we know they aren't experiencing dental or clear soundness issues prior to riding. On average we float 5 horses a week and complete 2 sets of xrays along all our other vetting on our Tuesday "Vet Days"!
