Another question we received about Steffi was whether she shows any signs of food aggression or resource guarding — and I LOVE questions like this.

It tells me a potential adopter is really thinking about what is safe and appropriate for their family. Most rescue dogs come to us hungry, and many come to us emaciated, so food can absolutely be something we have to work through.

With Steffi, we have not seen concerning food aggression or guarding.

Here I am messing with her food a bit like a child might — touching the bowl, moving things around, and getting into her space while she eats.

📦 A little behind-the-scenes look at rescue life!

Believe it or not, this is just a couple days’ worth of deliveries from companies we have agreements with that send us their returns and overstock products.

These partnerships are an incredible blessing to our rescue. Because of them, our dogs and cats generally have a wonderful supply of all-natural treats, vitamins, supplements, and other products that we’re able to use directly for the animals in our care.

The catch is that we usually have no heads-up on what is coming or how much. Some days it’s a handful of boxes. Other days, we have had three full pallets arrive on a special delivery truck. 😂

So if you ever visit the rescue and see boxes stacked up, please know we are most likely right in the middle of sorting through a shipment. Some products go straight into the shelters for immediate use, while others are organized and moved into storage.

Many of these shipments also arrive in reused return boxes, so the boxes themselves may be crumpled, taped up, worn, or less than pretty. That is simply part of the agreement and part of how these programs work.

Please overlook the temporary stacks and organized chaos. We are doing our best to stay on top of the shipments, and quite frankly, we do not care about having stacks of boxes when what is inside them benefits the animals in our care. ❤️

These agreements save our rescue a tremendous amount of money and allow us to put more of our resources toward veterinary care, food, rehabilitation, and everything else our animals need.

We are incredibly grateful for these partnerships — and very grateful for every single box, even the ugly ones. 😂📦🐾

🐾 Dog Shelter Reno Update! 🐾

We are SO close to being finished! What started with four standard 4x8 kennels and several large escape-proof crates has now grown into 12 spacious, heavy-duty 4x8 kennels, plus four smaller stacked crates for puppies or smaller dogs. ❤️

Before we could make that transition, the floor needed a complete overhaul. We worked section by section to keep every animal safely separated while the floor was ground down, stained, and top coated—and it turned out BEAUTIFUL.

We have a few paint projects and some utility-area cleanup left, but the finish line is in sight. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. Our dogs are going to be so much more comfortable. 🥹🐾

And now for the important stuff… 😂

The cats have a TV, so obviously the dogs need one too. If anyone has an older flat-screen TV sitting around that we could mount in the shelter, we would LOVE to give it a home. It doesn’t need to be fancy—we already have a stereo, but apparently we’re building them the full entertainment package. 😂❤️

Mary has been keeping us updated on Squishmallow! We talked about giving him time, starting him in a small space, and letting him lead the way. And look at this! Some cats need a week or more to feel comfortable—but it wasn’t long before Squishmallow was ready to explore! 🥹🐾

Delilah was found all alone,
With no warm bed to call her own.
Though she is blind, she’s sweet as can be,
A tiny lovebug, as precious as she.

She naps on a bag or curls in a box,
In front of your coffee or clean folded socks.
She’s a professional biscuit maker too,
Kneading up happiness just for you.

She’ll fill every day with laughter and cheer,
And bring so much joy when she’s finally near.
But happier than anywhere she may roam,
Would be sweet Delilah in her forever home. 🩷🐾

Our 500-square-foot shelter is a converted mobile home designed to feel calm, comfortable, and as home-like as possible. It includes a dedicated isolation room, bathroom, kitchen, and a mostly open layout where the cats can move freely, climb, play, nap, and socialize.

They also have indoor and outdoor access to two secure catios, giving them the chance to safely enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of enrichment.

It was created with their comfort, safety, and happiness in mind—and every corner is filled with love. 💛
