🐾 Eight puppies. One rescue mission. Eight new beginnings. ❤️

We were contacted by a very kind but desperate family in far Southern Illinois, in an area where animal control has no jurisdiction.

Eight 5-month-old puppies were living outdoors in a 4x6 kennel, and resources to keep them fed were scarce. At this age, proper nutrition, space, and socialization are critical to their growth and development. Without intervention, their situation would only become more difficult, and within months, this family would be caring for TEN adult dogs.

For several reasons, we knew we needed to step in. And we are so glad we did. ❤️

Thank you to this family for recognizing the urgency, reaching out for help, and being so wonderful to work with. Asking for help was the right thing to do.

A huge thank you to Sheree Gilbert for working with us to get mama dog spayed so this cycle doesn’t repeat itself!

It was a beautiful day for a rescue mission, and we couldn’t be more excited about these eight little lives. They’re a bit timid, but oh so sweet. We can’t wait to help them grow, gain confidence, and eventually find the forever homes they deserve.

Meet our sweet litter of eight! We decided to go with a fall-inspired theme full of sweet treats, and we think their names fit them perfectly! 🍫🎃

🐾❤️ The litter of eight has arrived! ❤️🐾

We don’t have much time to post because we still have a LOT of work ahead of us today, but we are officially back with all eight puppies!

We are so excited to have them here and truly honored to be able to care for them. Some are noticeably malnourished, while others have big, wormy bellies, but we’re hopeful that brighter days are ahead for every single one of them. ❤️

We cannot thank you enough for the incredible support! So many of you have been shopping our wish list and donating toward their care, and we are incredibly grateful.

We’ll share more videos and updates once we get some more work done around here!

🚨 **SOS! EMERGENCY PUPPY INTAKE!** 🚨

**8 puppies desperately need help, and Shining Light Animal Rescue is stepping up!** 🐾❤️

These babies are coming from an area with **no animal control support**, leaving animals and the people trying to help them with very few options.

We are preparing to welcome all EIGHT puppies into our rescue, while also working on a plan to get their mama spayed so this cycle doesn't continue.

Taking in eight growing puppies at once is a HUGE undertaking, and we urgently need supplies to make this happen!

We've put together a Walmart wishlist with puppy food, bedding, toys, cleaning supplies, and other essentials. If you have supplies on hand to donate please message us for drop off!

❤️ Matilda has found her person! 🐾

When Carter reached out to us looking for a companion, he was immediately interested in Matilda. The more we told him about her and the more videos we sent, the more he fell in love.

By the time we scheduled their meet and greet, Carter was already sold. He told us it was just a matter of whether Matilda chose him. ❤️

And we loved that.

Carter grew up around rescue animals and understood that Matilda might need some time. I even warned him that she would probably be a little shy at first.

Well, Matilda proved me wrong. AGAIN. 😂

She literally jumped out of my car and straight into his lap!

And the rest of the meet and greet? Pretty much the same. She was absolutely OBSESSED with him. 🥹

It was genuinely beautiful to watch this sweet girl connect with someone so naturally. Sometimes they really do seem to know.

We have such high hopes for this new friendship!

Thank you, Carter, for choosing rescue, giving Matilda a chance, and letting her choose you right back. We have no doubt she’s going to be spoiled rotten by you and your whole family.

🌈 Rest peacefully, sweet Rumi. 💔😔

Rumi came to us as a tiny kitten, likely tossed from a moving car. Her teeth were broken, her little arm was shattered, and she had already endured more than any animal ever should.

She overcame an amputation and went on to be the happiest, sweetest little girl. Rumi was ALL PURRS. ❤️

Until something went terribly wrong.

Rumi suddenly developed several severe neurological symptoms that progressed rapidly. Despite veterinary intervention, we lost our sweet girl.

And it begs the question… How do we know what’s going on inside of them? How do we guard them from things we cannot see? How do we control every possibility and ensure that nothing will ever go wrong?

The heartbreaking answer is that we can’t.

We can provide safety, love, veterinary care, and everything within our power to give them the lives they deserve. But unfortunately, we are not in control of everything. And sometimes, despite doing all we can, we lose them anyway.

Rumi was so incredibly special. She had already fought so hard to have the life she deserved, and we thought she had a lifetime of happiness ahead of her.

Our hearts are broken. Again.

Sweet Rumi, you deserved so much more time. We hope you knew just how very loved you were.

Rest easy, little girl. No more pain. No more struggles. Just peace. 🌈🐾❤️

🐾❤️ WALTER’S PUPDATE! ❤️🐾

These are the updates that make rescue so rewarding! 🥹

Walter is living his BEST life with his wonderful family! His mom, Shelly, says he and Stella LOVE playing ball outside, and thanks to her working from home, they get plenty of playtime throughout the day!

Walter is even learning to track the ball and catch it after just one bounce! 🎾👏

From a dog who needed saving to a beloved family member spending his days playing ball and being adored. THIS is why we rescue. ❤️

🐾 LIBERTY PUPDATE! 😂❤️

Liberty’s family reached out with this fabulous update: she is now performing lobotomies on her new stuffed animals. 🧸🤣

I was talking with a potential adopter today, and we were agreeing that sometimes your rescue dog does something you would normally NOT approve of… but you find yourself celebrating anyway.

Because after everything she’s been through, seeing her let loose, be silly, make a mess, and just be a NORMAL DOG is something really special. ❤️

And this is the epitome of that!

🐾 A HUGE THANK YOU TO Jagger's Doggie Daycare, Dog Grooming, Training & Boarding in MOUNT VERNON! ❤️

Recently, Jagger’s shared that they were upgrading their kennels and looking to donate their older ones to a nonprofit. So many of you tagged us (THANK YOU!), and we reached out right away!

We’ve heard wonderful things about Jagger’s from many of you, and our experience absolutely lived up to those recommendations!

They were incredibly kind and generous, even taking the time to give us a tour of their beautiful facility. We got to see their gorgeous new kennels, outdoor play yard, and some dogs working on their training. What a wonderful place!

Their donated kennels are going to work FABULOUSLY for us, and the timing couldn’t be better! We’re currently working on upgrades to our outdoor kennels and our new doggy nursery for moms and puppies. 🐶
