After Hamilton County proposed swapping 535 acres of Enterprise South Nature Park for industrial development—threatening six miles of the network's best singletrack—more than 12,000 people signed a petition and the county reversed course, preserving the trails for recreation.

2025 was our 20th year as an organization, and we have big plans heading into the future. We would like to introduce you to TORC's first paid staff member and Executive Director: Shaun King!

Shaun is the current board chair of Bike Durham, and has helped steer that organization on an incredibly successful path of growth. In that role he has been a longtime partner with us. He has won multiple awards for nonprofit service working with both the Boy and Girls Clubs of Wake County and Bike Durham. His experience will help us grow so we can make single track mountain bike trails more of a priority in the Triangle, starting this year.

His official start date is February 2nd but we couldn’t wait to tell you! Big thanks to SORBA Main, Pisgah Area SORBA, and SORBA Chattanooga for the help as we made our way along this journey.

We’ll have a meet-and-greet social event sometime in February or March, details TBD.
