Supporting law enforcement families through financial assistance, holiday support, scholarships, and year-round community care. Operation Santa's SLED (Support Law Enforcement Drive)

The mission of Operation Santa’s SLED is to support law enforcement officers and their families who are experiencing a personal crisis by purchasing Christmas gifts for the family, providing a cash donation to each f

amily and arranging for a special gift delivery that demonstrates support, encouragement, and fellowship. How the Program Works
• How the Program Works
• Nominations are accepted from local, county and state law enforcement agencies.
• Families are selected by the program committee members according to their need and circumstances.
• Once a family has been selected, the agency liaison will work with the family to provide a wish list for each child.
• We collect donations through GoFundMe and local agency efforts (No Shave November and other collections).
• Designated shoppers purchase and wrap gifts for each family.
• The ability to fulfill the children’s wish lists is dependent on the support of our fundraising effort.
• When the wish list is fulfilled, any remaining funds are provided as a monetary donation to the family.
• Depending on the family’s preference, gifts can be delivered to the children by Santa during a parade consisting of a variety of law enforcement and local fire/ems vehicles, a private Santa delivery, or a private delivery via the agency liaison. A family of a police officer, corrections officer, probation officer, parole officer or dispatcher who is in need. Need is any physical, mental, emotional, or financial crisis the family is experiencing due to a critical circumstance such as illness, serious physical injury, or death of a family member. Check out our amazing Pedal for Presents teams!

We are so grateful for every rider who has signed up, every team that has formed, and every person helping us make this year’s ride so meaningful.

There is still time to get involved. You can join an existing team, start your own team, or, if you are not riding, support one or more of our riders.

And honestly, there is nothing wrong with a little friendly competition when it is for such a good cause. 😊

Funds raised through Pedal for Presents help Operation Santa’s S.L.E.D. provide our Christmas Program, emergency support for law enforcement families throughout the year, and our scholarship program.

But this day is about more than fundraising.

It is about bringing families, friends, riders, agencies, and supporters together to remind the families we support that they are not alone. They have a community standing behind them.

Help us make this a very special day for them, especially for the children.

Sponsor Highlight: Yankee Trails

We are so grateful to Yankee Trails for their generous in-kind donation of a 36-passenger bus for this year’s Pedal for Presents Memorial Bicycle Ride and Picnic.

This support is a big deal for our event.

One of the things we are adding this year is a Family Shuttle, which will help OSS families and family members of riders be part of the day without having to drive separately from stop to stop. The shuttle will allow families to attend memorial tribute locations along the route, the ceremony at the New York State Police Officers Memorial, and return to Elm Avenue Park to cheer riders across the finish line.

Having the support of Yankee Trails gives us more flexibility as we continue working through the schedule and logistics for the day. Along with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office trolley, this additional shuttle support will help us better serve families and keep the day moving smoothly.

Pedal for Presents has a lot of moving pieces, and support like this helps make the day safer, smoother, and more meaningful for everyone involved.

Thank you, Yankee Trails, for helping us stand behind the families behind the badge.

Congratulations to Officer Darrin Ettinger on an incredible career. What an amazing accomplishment and so much to be proud of.

We wish him all the best in his retirement and are so grateful he was part of our very first Pedal for Presents Memorial Bicycle Ride last year. It meant a lot to have him there.

This is the heart of law enforcement we are so proud to support: people who dedicate their lives to serving others, building community, and making a difference far beyond the uniform.

End of Watch Remembrance

Today we honor Sergeant (Retired) Francis Paul “Frank” Stabile
New York State Police
End of Watch: May 20, 2020

Sergeant Stabile is remembered for his service, his dedication, and the impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

His life and legacy were not defined by his title alone. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Today, we pause to remember Frank and to honor the family who continues to carry his memory forward.

We also stand with his family and all those who continue to grieve his loss, because the loss does not end after the ceremony.

At Pedal for Presents, Frank’s memory will also be carried forward as riders honor the law enforcement families behind each memorial mile.

Training Tuesday Tip: Ride 2x2 and Call It Out

Pedal for Presents is ridden in a 2x2 formation for the full 46 miles. That means two riders side by side, staying steady, holding your line, and communicating clearly with the riders around you.

Clear calls help keep the entire group safe.

A few calls every rider should know:

Slowing
When the group is reducing speed.

Stopping
When the group is coming to a stop.

Rolling
When the group is starting to move again.

Car back
Vehicle approaching from behind.

Car passing
Vehicle is actively passing the group.

Hole, debris, or gravel
Road hazard ahead.

On your left
When passing another rider.

These calls may seem small, but they make a big difference when a large group is riding together.

We do not hold official Pedal for Presents training rides because our riders come from all across New York State. But if you are local and would like to join a training ride, the Albany Ride for Missing Children has their training ride schedule posted now.

They are a wonderful organization riding for such an important cause, and I highly recommend checking them out. You may even be inspired to join them for their ride in September!

Behind the Badge: Memorial Tribute
In Honor of Lieutenant Michael Hoosock | Mile 37

At Mile 37 of Pedal for Presents, we will honor the life and service of Lieutenant Michael Hoosock of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Hoosock was killed in the line of duty on April 14, 2024, alongside Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jenkins.

A member of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office since 2007, Lieutenant Hoosock rose through the ranks and was serving as EOD Commander. He was awarded multiple commendations throughout his career, including the Medal of Valor.

At Mile 37, we will ride in his memory and pause in gratitude for his service, sacrifice, and the family who carries his legacy forward.

We’re so excited to share that the first-ever Pedal for Presents Challenge Coins have arrived!

And as you can see, they are huge! Well… maybe not quite this huge. 😂

A big thank you to Melinda Vick for suggesting the challenge coin and helping bring this idea to life. Melinda is one of our true-blue volunteers, and we are so grateful for the heart she puts into supporting our OSS families.

Every rider, sponsor, and OSS family member will receive a challenge coin at Pedal for Presents.

A new Pedal for Presents Challenge Coin design will be created each year, making this one especially meaningful.

We will also have coins available for purchase at the picnic for anyone who would like one.

$20 each, while supplies last.
