American Legion Post 28 has started a high school baseball league in Roswell. The ages are from 14 to 19. This is a league that has been around for over 100 years. American Legion Baseball is a past time that is coming back. I enjoyed having these boys involved this weekend.

These boys represented Roswell as a team won 2 and loss 2. They came together as a team from GHS, RHS, NMMI & Portales High School. They had a blast this weekend and asked when the next game is.

American Legion has a regular season, state tournament , regional tournament and national tournament.

Next season starts June 1, 2027.

19-year-old Marine from Camp Pendleton who died after being gravely wounded in a shooting, is remembered as a young Marine whose life was taken far too soon at just 19 years old.

Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia-Lopez was a 19-year-old United States Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton whose life was tragically cut short in September 2016 after being shot while on leave in Los Angeles. Friends and fellow Marines remembered him as a disciplined young service member with a strong future ahead of him, known for his loyalty to family, humility, and commitment to serving his country.

The killing shocked both the Marine Corps community and local residents. Hundreds gathered during vigils and funeral services to honor the young Marine, describing him as respectful, hardworking, and deeply devoted to those around him. Camp Pendleton later held an official memorial ceremony celebrating his service and sacrifice.

Years after his death, two gang members were convicted in connection with the shooting and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Prosecutors stated that Segovia-Lopez was not involved in gangs and was simply trying to do the right thing when the violence occurred.

Though gone too soon, Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia-Lopez continues to be remembered for the person he was and the legacy of honor he left behind.

The missing 20-year-old US Army soldier was killed by a fellow soldier the same day she disappeared, a family attorney, citing an investigation by the Army's Criminal Investigation Command, said in a statement to Army Times published Thursday

The attorney, Natalie Khawam, said she was briefed by Army investigators, who said US Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen was attacked by Aaron Robinson, a fellow soldier who was not within her chain of command, in an armory room at Fort Hood, Texas.

Robinson had used a hammer to attack Guillen, causing "her blood to be splashed all over the armory room," Khawam told Army Times. (Armory rooms are used to store military weapons.)
