Today we were honored to stand beside victims and survivors at our Annual Victim + Survivor Brunch—where our community came together to honor lives lost, uplift resilience, and recommit to the work ahead.

From the expansion of Placer PROMISE to the unveiling of a vision for a Victim + Survivor Memorial Park, this event showed what’s possible when a community chooses to listen, act, and advocate—together.

We are proud to support this growing movement and the voices driving it forward.

Our brunch just got that much more delicious.

We are excited to announce that Bumble Bee Coffee, a survivor-run local business, will be joining us at this year’s Victim + Survivor Brunch with their coffee cart—generously donating a full menu of coffee, tea, and specialty drink options. Even the syrups are being donated by Vaneli's Handcrafted Coffee from Rocklin.

Not only does the menu look incredible, it was thoughtfully handcrafted with care and intention. Even more meaningful, the servers behind the coffee cart are young people who are victims or have been impacted by crime, making this collaboration both powerful and deeply personal.

We are incredibly grateful for this partnership that brings together purpose, opportunity, and community in such a unique way.

And there’s more--Bumble Bee Coffee has also received an additional donation to create an artistic and unforgettable event surprise… one you will not want to miss.

Toast has a furry friend! 😆 Happy April 1.

Introducing Chloe, the Court Cat—our newest “staff member” known for delivering comfort, calm, and the occasional well-timed head boop during stressful days. Whether it’s a quiet moment before court or a little extra reassurance in the hallway, Chloe is always on duty (especially if treats or catnip is involved).

Oh and …. happy April 1.

We are proud to recognize the Placer County Prosecutors Association as a Foundation Sponsor of this year’s Victim + Survivor Brunch.

This dedicated group represents the prosecutors who work every day to seek justice, protect our community, and stand alongside victims of crime. Their support of this event reflects a deep commitment -- not just in the courtroom, but in ensuring survivors are seen, supported, and empowered.

The Placer County Prosecutors Association plays a critical role in strengthening our local justice system and uplifting those it serves. Their partnership helps make this event -- and the services that surround it -- possible.

We are grateful for their continued leadership and unwavering support of victims and survivors across our county.

The justice movement has always been about something larger than ourselves. Through the Placer PROMISE program, the community can directly partner with our Placer County District Attorney's Office on key initiatives and help us keep our kids safe!

Proceeds from this event allow the community to contribute to critical Placer DA Office programming, such as:

• Victim Services Unit

• Placer Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)
• Empower + Resilience Project
• Placer PROTECT
• And other prevention, outreach, and survivor support initiatives

When you attend or sponsor this event, you are not just showing up -- you are investing in healing, justice, prevention, and long-term community safety.

We are excited to announce that tickets are now available for our annual Placer County Victim + Survivor Brunch, in partnership with our non-profit partner, the Placer Justice Foundation.

This event is so much more than a brunch. It is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of survivors — and of a community that shows up, stands together, and supports them.

This year's Crime Victims' Rights Week theme is "Listen. Act. Advocate." and it could not be more fitting for what we have in store for this event.

This year, participants can expect:
• More inspiring survivor stories and powerful speakers
• A clear call to action for our community
• The FIRST public reveal of an exciting new announcement for our county
• An opportunity to stand alongside victims, survivors, advocates, and public safety partners

This event sells out quickly every year. We encourage you to secure your seat today.

Did you know the Placer County District Attorney's Office SART team also conducts specialized domestic violence forensic exams — including strangulation exams?

Domestic violence does not always leave visible bruises. In fact, strangulation can cause serious internal injuries without leaving any outward marks.

That’s why forensic exams are critical.

What These Exams Do:
➡️Document injuries — even when they are not visible to the eye
➡️Identify internal trauma caused by strangulation
➡️Preserve medical evidence that may otherwise disappear
➡️Provide survivors with medical assessment and safety guidance
➡️Strengthen documentation and record of the incident

Strangulation is one of the strongest predictors of future lethal violence. Proper documentation can save lives — and ensure offenders are held accountable.

Our trained forensic examiners approach every case with compassion, professionalism, and trauma-informed care.

If you or someone you know needs support, resources are available 24/7.

Learn more about the Placer Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and strangulation information at www.placer.ca.gov/SART and www.placer.ca.gov/SARP
