Peace at Home Advocacy Center (formerly Battered Persons' Advocacy) has been providing services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Douglas County for 40 years. The Gala & Dance Competition is an amazing event created to help raise funds to support these services in our community. Each year we host a dance competition where local people compete for a variety of awards.

Details coming soon about our next event. Show up for survivors. Building community resilience.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
This year, Peace at Home is hosting its first annual event, Laps of Solidarity. We believe that no survivor should ever be alone.

We are inviting the community to walk or run with each other. Collectively we will make 120 laps together. Each lap represents a sexual assault survivor Peace at Home advocates supported in 2025. We hope that survivors know their community is here for them and they should never be alone. Event details coming soon!

The audience made some noise for the Chaos Queens. They mix life with style, sass, fun and grace. Savannah, Nasara, Jennifer, Ashley and Amanda brought an upbeat funk performance about showing up, showing out and owning who they are! Because life isn’t always perfectly choreographed. Sometimes it’s messy. Sometimes it’s loud. But when you own it? That’s where the magic happens. This piece was about confidence, resilience, and turning everyday chaos into something unstoppable. Their energy was impressive!

Dance Instructor Svitlana chose bachata this year because it’s an easier, accessible dance for beginners of all ages to enjoy and learn quickly. Her goal was to bring people together through dance while supporting our community. Svitlana creates an inclusive space, where everyone feels welcome to the studio to work out and learn together. This dedicated group of women created a joyful piece. Thank you, Svitlana, Alyson, Jaden, Ashley, Crystal, Deanna, Natayla, and Denise.

Tap Dance Coach, Jann performed with her group to a fun piece of music that showcased their lively spirit, beauty, and confidence. They hope you felt the spark in this year’s dance to the song “One Day.” Umpqua Valley tap brings gives these dancers the chance to move together but also create music together with every tap. They believe, when we dance, the cares of the day can fall away as the focus becomes about the steps, the sound, and the rhythm. We welcome, talented tap dancers Kaylee, Melissa, Nicole, and Jann.

Marchel Ferreira and Jaden King performed “What Else Can I Do?” from the movie Encanto - a song about breaking free from expectations and discovering strength in unexpected places. At an event supporting the life-saving work of Peace at Home, this song honors survivors who are reclaiming their voices, redefining their futures, and discovering just how powerful they truly are. It’s a celebration of resilience, growth, and the courage to ask: What else can I do?

Beautifully executed by some the kindest women you will meet!

This performance was chosen by our Executive Director, Melanie Prummer to honor Peace at Home advocates. Performer Holly, is a passionate singer. As someone who works with children at Hucrest Elementary, it also means a lot to support an event that empowers survivors, while also educating the community. Holly chose the song, "I will Survive" because it is upbeat, dramatic and showcases her voice. Holly has been acting and singing throughout high school and college. Holly is an inspiration - both talent and maturity beyond her years!

The Spitfire Syrons is a local dancing group, last Saturday, LaQuita and Sarah took the stage. The performance took you on a magical journey where modern and traditional music collides. The first song fuses traditional Bangia vocals with modern music by the artist Amanati. The second song was a fun percussion tabla piece featuring the Maksum Rhythm, a popular Arabic rhythm that helped shape belly dance. Song is titled “No Tabla, No Fun” by Emad Sayyah. Any belly dancer will tell you that is the truth. This performance gave guests goose bumps - so powerful!

Judy Kennedy won the 2026 People's Choice Award. This award is about recognizing the performer who raises the most money for Peace at Home through sponsorships, ticket sales, and votes.

During the show Judy performed the classic song Moon River performed by Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Judy is a very talented vocalist and crowd favorite! Not only for her singing but also her volunteerism in the community.
