Remember when everyone said, "You can never have too many potatoes"?

Well...

I would like to present 2,000 pounds of potatoes. 😳

That's right.

TWO.
THOUSAND.
POUNDS.

Or as I like to call it:

🥔 A potato situation.

🥔 A spud emergency.

🥔 The beginning of my campaign to become King of Idaho.

Now don't get me wrong—we are THRILLED to have them! Potatoes are one of the most versatile foods around and can help feed a whole lot of families.

But now I need your help...

I'll go first...

📦 You can build a box fort faster than most people can assemble IKEA furniture.

🥫 You get irrationally excited when someone donates exactly what we're running low on.

🛒 You can steer a fully loaded shopping cart around a corner without slowing down.

🍞 You see a loaf of artisan bread and immediately think:
"Ooooooo the clients are gonna LOVE this."

📋 You hear the phrase:
"Can someone break this down?"
and somehow your feet start dancing toward the cardboard.

🫘 You accidentally organized your own pantry at home by food categories.

🚗 You open your trunk and discover three reusable grocery bags, a donation flyer, and a random can of corn.

👀 You walk into any grocery store and immediately start mentally planning a food drive.

🎵 You miss one volunteer shift and suddenly realize how much you miss hearing the call for the morning meeting and the daily announcements.

🪿 You find yourself randomly telling complete strangers to "Make good choices."

📦 Your family starts setting boxes aside for you because apparently collecting cardboard has become your entire personality.

😌 You came in to volunteer for an hour...
and somehow it's dark outside.

🪿 You've had a conversation with a goose.
A full conversation.
And honestly? He made some good points.

Now it's YOUR turn.

🪿 Haddock's What's for dinner Wednesday: Easy Summer Dinner Edition ☀️🍅

Friends...

It is getting HOT.

And as much as I enjoy standing majestically in the sunshine, sometimes a goose just wants an easy dinner that doesn't require heating up the whole house.

So today I'm sharing one of my favorite pantry-inspired meals:

🥣 Summer Pantry Taco Bowls

What you'll need:
🌽 Canned corn
🫘 Black beans
🍅 Diced tomatoes or salsa
🍚 Rice
🧀 Cheese (if you have it)
🥑 Avocado (if you're feeling fancy)
🥬 Lettuce or any fresh veggies from the produce section

Directions:

Cook rice.
Open cans.
Mix things together.
Pretend you're on a cooking show.
Eat.

I know. I'm basically a chef.

The best part? Most of these ingredients can often be found right here at the pantry.

And if you want to make it extra fancy:
🌶️ Add hot sauce
🥔 Add crushed tortilla chips
🍗 Add canned chicken
🪿 Invite a goose over for dinner

(Please do not actually invite me. Jenn says I am a terrible house guest.)

🪿 Important Question from Haddock... 👀

Friends,

I spend a lot of time supervising around the pantry, and I've noticed something.

Everybody has that one food.

You know the one.

The food you buy every single grocery trip.

The food you would fight a goose for.

The food that, if it disappeared from the earth tomorrow, would send you into a mild emotional crisis.

For me?

🥜 Peanut Butter.

No hesitation.

No regrets.

No further questions.

So now I need to know...

🪿 Important Goose Announcement: Happy Pride! 🌈🧡

Friends, this is Pride month, and as your favorite pantry goose, I would like to remind everyone of something very important...

At The FISH of Roseburg, there is room at the table for everybody. 🧡

Whether you're here for groceries, volunteering, donating, or just stopping by to admire my magnificent feathers, you are welcome.

We believe food is for everyone.
Kindness is for everyone.
Dignity is for everyone.
And snacks are DEFINITELY for everyone. 😌

I've spent a lot of time watching humans around the pantry, and I've noticed something:

When people feel safe, they smile more.
When people feel welcome, they come back.
When people are treated with kindness, communities grow stronger.

Also, when people see a goose wearing sunglasses, they usually take pictures. But that's a separate issue.

So this month(and every day,week,month,year) I'm celebrating all of our friends, neighbors, volunteers, donors, staff, and community members who make this little corner of Roseburg a place where people can come exactly as they are. 🌈

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some very important Pride business to attend to.

🪿 ROAD TRIP RECAP: Bend Edition 🚗☕🍔📼

Friends… I have returned from my adventures and WOW do I have stories.

First, FISH was invited to Bend for a conference panel about Food Insecurity and innovative ways we are navigating the current challenges facing our communities.

The humans asked REALLY good questions.

One person even asked how to find me on social media. 😌

Finally. The recognition I deserve.

I assume the rest of the panel was honored to share the stage with someone of my stature. 🪿✨

While we were there, I got to tour The Giving Plate, a food pantry in Bend that uses a shopping model just like we do.

Friends.

THIS PLACE.

✨ Beautiful pantry
✨ Incredible staff
✨ Coffee bar
✨ Room dedicated entirely to snacks
✨ ACTUAL SLIDE INSIDE THE BUILDING

A SLIDE.

I have been trying to convince Jenn that every pantry decision should begin with the question:
"But could it have a slide?"

We had a wonderful visit with their pantry manager, shared ideas, learned from each other, and spent time talking about how we can all better serve our communities.

And yes...

☕ I sampled the coffee.

For professional research purposes, obviously.

Then we made an important stop at Burgerville.

Friends...

The rumors are true.

YUMMMMMM. 🍔

And then...

🎬 THE BIG ONE 🎬

We visited the LAST BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO ON THE PLANET.

The LAST ONE.

I walked through history.

Magnets were acquired.
Stickers were procured.
Memories were made.

All in all, it was an amazing trip filled with learning, community, food, friendship, and just the right amount of goose-related tourism.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need several business days to emotionally process the fact that I have now visited a pantry with a slide.
