The Umpqua Transportation Electrification Team (UTET)
Promotes the development of infrastructure for…and the understanding, use, and accessibility of…affordable electric vehicles through partnerships with governments, businesses, and community-based organizations, including low- and moderate-income residents of Douglas County
2. Because of UTET efforts, within three years people will see
- Re
duced vehicle emissions
- Increased energy efficiency per vehicle mile traveled
- Lower transportation costs for UTET partners and residents, particularly low-income families and small businesses that receive support for EV ownership or use
- A variety of electric vehicles in use (e.g., buses, vans, cars, motorcycles, tricycles, bicycles, scooters)
- Streets will be quieter and smell better
- People will have the opportunity to charge their vehicles at home, particularly for newly constructed homes and families that can afford EVs
3. In 20 years, we expect to see
- Healthier, more vibrant, vehicle-pollution-free communities
- Electric vehicles in common use throughout the Umpqua Basin with strong electric transportation connections among communities
- Fewer cars and trucks overall
- More places where people can gather safely and enjoy quieter surroundings
- Well-distributed and affordable charging and maintenance infrastructure to support electrified vehicles
- Streets will be even quieter and smell even better
4. We will act
- As an information source and clearinghouse about electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, including vehicle use and availability, technical and financial support, and government (e.g., Oregon Department of Transportation, US Department of Transportation, US Department of Energy) and non-governmental resources
- To support any partner willing to electrify their vehicles, regardless of their reason for doing so
- To outreach broadly to locate and support interested people, governments, businesses, and non-governmental organizations, using multiple media channels including print, electronic, and social media to expose people to the full range of electric vehicle and infrastructure information and opportunities
- To promote economic equity in transportation with a particular focus on low-income and socially disadvantaged individuals and families
- To develop and disseminate education programs directed at people, governments, businesses, and non-governmental organizations with a particular focus on schools (e.g., automotive training, energy, and natural science curricula) and on entities serving low-income people and families
- To create a network of interested partners so they can share their ideas and achievements with like-minded people
- To seek and seize on quickly advancing funding and development opportunities by producing multiple well-thought-out proposals for transportation electrification in the Umpqua Basin
