Help us preserve the West Shore of Flathead Lake. The Upper West Shore Alliance is a Montana nonprofit corporation located along the upper west shore of Flathead Lake in Montana. We have a volunteer board with residents from both Lake County and Flathead County due to the unique location of the upper west shore of Flathead Lake. Our purpose is to

help direct growth in the Upper West Shore area to maintain the rural character of the area, and support growth that protects and enhances property values and amenities, and protects and enhances the natural environment, water quality and wildlife. Know of an event or project in the area. We're happy to feature local projects and help spread the word. Our current projects include working with the Women of Rollins, Friends of the Dayton School, MCA Legislation Revision Submission, and the Preserve Lakeside / 93 Highway Corridor.

As the Flathead Valley’s latest luxury resort Territory 1889, also known as the Flathead Lake Club, makes its way through state and local review processes, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is preparing to host a public hearing Thursday on a draft of the club’s Environmental Assessment (EA) for sanitary facilities. The Flathead County Planning Board is accepting "letters of interest" to serve on the Planning Board. The board has nine members, including a representative from the Flathead Conservation District. There are two (2) positions that recently became vacant and will fill existing terms expiring, December 31, 2026 and December 31, 2027. These positions are appointed by the Flathead County Commissioners.

Thank you to everyone who submitted comments and those who were able to attend the meeting in person. The video of the meeting is online now. The public comment starts at 8:45am and includes some very impressive, well thought-out comments about valid safety and environmental concerns. It is incredibly disappointing that the Flathead County Commissioners did not choose to upgrade this to a major variance which would have required additional review including the environmental impact and given more opportunity for public comment.

You can click on each of the times on the agenda to jump to that point in the video. Public comment starts immediately after the pledge. You then can click on 9:06:03am for item F.

⚓ Flathead County approves 159-foot dock variance for Lakeside marina despite opposition.

Flathead County commissioners unanimously approved Discovery Land Company's request for a variance to extend a commercial marina dock to 159 feet, 59 feet beyond the 100-foot limit allowed by lakeshore regulations. The marina is part of the luxury Flathead Lake Club development in Lakeside, with 36 boat slips planned.
